Interesting cricket topics to blog about online

Writing about cricket online can be really fun for those who are avid fans of the sport. There is so much to talk about and it makes for great content, due to the uniqueness of writing styles and personalities. In this article we will explore the best cricket blog topics to write about, for those who are either looking for new ideas or those who are just getting started on their blogging career.

I will personally explain why I have chosen each of the five topics and give personal examples of articles that have done really well in terms of views, in each of the categories.

So, let’s get started with the top 5!

5. Personal opinions on cricket

Personal opinions are probably the easiest topic to blog about for cricket websites. This is because the writer can give their point of view and they cannot be criticised for it. Using stats and data to back it up means that a good argument can be made. It also allows the writer to blog about topics that they know well and are strong at.

At Last Word on Sports, a superb article was recently written on “Why Sharjeel Khan’s recall was an unjustified decision.” This explored a personal point of view and had a good body to it because the author had watched numerous hours of Pakistan Cricket and hence understood the situation well. For example, in the article, he argues as to why other cricketers weren’t given the same liberties that Sharjeel Khan was, post a spot-fixing ban.

Personal opinions is number five on my list of “Top 5 best cricket blog topics to write about.”

4. Comparisons of cricketers

Comparing cricketers is a very common thing to do in modern-day cricket. Especially in the advent of marketing strategies created by sports broadcasters. The likes of Steve Smith, Joe Root, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson are branded into a “Fab Four.”

A similar concept applies for the bowling fraternity, in the brand of Jofra Archer, Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada. These are all a similar age and have likeness in their bowling prowess.

This is a great topic to write about because when two teams from those mentioned cricketers play a series against each other, it is likely that there will be lots of comparisons. Hence, it will help drive traffic to your blog. For example the Joe Root vs Virat Kohli analysis that I wrote during the India vs England Test series, generated a high number of views.

3. Analysis of cricketers

Analysis of cricketers is number three on this list. This can generally be quite a difficult topic to write about because it requires you to have watched the cricketer very closely. For example, in the picture above, Jasprit Bumrah is bowling.

Now, to analyse his game, it is likely that you will need to have watched him bowl for a number of years, in order to realise what he does well and how he has been improving his bowling over time. His bowling action is one of those that attract attention.

Coincidentally, Bumrah didn’t begin as a world-beater in international or domestic cricket but a few years down the line and he is arguably the best all-format bowler in the world. This is because he has improved and tweaked his game. How he has done that forms a good topic to blog about.

2. Lists of cricketers

Featuring at number two on this list is a list itself. Now this may sound strange at first but writing an article listing cricketers is a great source of content. For example, you could choose a particular country and list some of their best players, i.e “The top 5 best Australian bowlers in Test history.

This would certainly generate a lot of interest from fans of the Australian Cricket Team but also patriotic supporters who follow players from other countries as well. However, these are generally long articles and can take quite a bit of time to write.

In addition to this, a list could also compromise an all-time XI, which has become a very fashionable point of view to write about. There are usually a lot of diverse opinions when choosing a team and hence should intrigue a number of readers. A piece that I would recommend you to read and take ideas from is “Picking England’s all-time ODI XI.”

List of cricketers is number two on my list of “Top 5 best cricket blog topics to write about.”

1. Trending news and events about cricket

Trending news and events is the best cricket topic to blog about online because it captures trending information.

In first place is trending news and events. This is by far the most common topic written about by cricket websites. It includes focuses such as injury news, team line-ups, match previews, pre-game interviewers, post-match analysis and any specific event that has happened in cricket.

This often grabs headlines and can help you obtain a lot of views if you publish the article at the correct time, as to when the topic is still trending and users are searching it up. For example, you could write a match preview about India vs England or CSK vs MI’s head to head rivalry. The possibilities are endless.
