Which cricketers have the most Instagram followers?

In recent times, social media has become almost a necessity for sportspeople to use and it is no different for cricketers. Platforms such as Instagram allow cricketers to express their views and post photos of themselves with their team, with which fans can like, comment and share with their friends. The most followed cricketers on Instagram receive plenty of engagement on their posts.

But, some cricketers have better social media teams and growth strategies than others. Therefore, their volume of interactions are very high.

So, who are the top 10 cricketers, with the largest fan bases on Instagram?

10. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan catapulted himself into stardom, when he scored the fastest test century by a debutant against Australia in 2013. Since then, he is flowered in all-three formats of the game. He has 7.9 million Instagram followers.

Dhawan is a big-game player and has stepped up for India in ICC tournaments in the past. He averages 54 in 50-over World Cups, over two tournaments. He also scored 363 runs at a batting average of 91 in the 2013 Champions Trophy to help India to the title.

9. KL Rahul

KL Rahul is a superb limited-overs batsman for India in both ODI and T20I cricket. He averages over 40 in both formats respectively. He has 9.2 million Instagram followers.

However, it is perhaps his feats in the Indian Premier League that has allowed him to have such a fan following. KL Rahul has been incredibly consistent at the top of the order for the Punjab Kings, scoring heavily in the last three seasons.

8. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh has helped India win two tournaments, thanks to his all-round prowess. He blazed away at the 2007 World T20, scoring six sixes in an over against England and then providing the killer blow against Australia in the Semi-Final.

He made the 2011 World Cup his own, scoring 362 runs at a batting average of 91 and picking up 15 wickets at a bowling average of 25. 10.6 million people currently follow Yuvraj Singh.

7. AB De Villiers

Incredibly, AB De Villiers is the only foreign cricketer on the list of most followed cricketers on Instagram. He has 13.2 million fans. “MR 360,” as he is fondly known, is very popular thanks to his all-round skills that has inspired a generation of cricketers.

He has lit up the biggest stages in both international and domestic cricket, through his scintillating stroke play, that has left many in awe. Perhaps amongst the top 3 greatest cricketers of our generation.

6. Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina has been a regular for India in limited-overs cricket in the past decade but he made his name for the Chennai Super Kings. He has been their most consistent batsman since IPL began in 2008.

Suresh Raina’s feats have allowed CSK to win three IPL titles and two Champions Leagues. He has also represented India in over 200 ODIs, contributing to many great victories. Raina has 14.9 million fans following him on Instagram.

5. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya made his name in the Indian Premier League in 2015, when he smashed Pawan Negi for multiple sixes in Chennai to help the Mumbai Indians snatch the game from nowhere. His IPL record is excellent and he has helped his franchise win multiple titles, including back-to-back in 2019 and 2020.

Hardik Pandya recently married the Serbian dancer Natasa Stankovic, which may have helped his following on Instagram grow. He currently has 16.3 million Instagram followers.

3. Sachin Tendulkar

In third place, is Sachin Tendulkar, the only non-playing cricketer on this list. Tendulkar is argued by some to be the greatest cricketer of all-time, thanks to his longevity in the game – playing over 200 Test matches and over 450 ODI’s. He helped India win the 2011 Cricket World Cup, where he scored 482 runs at a batting average of 54.

Tendulkar has just over 27.8 million Instagram followers, thanks to his godly status and the fact that he still participates in celebrity events. He is top amongst most followed cricketers on Instagram, from those that have retired from the game completely.

2. MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni is arguably the best captain in limited-overs history. He captained India to three titles – the 2007 World T20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Dhoni remains the only captain to have won all three tournaments. As a batsman in limited-overs cricket, he averaged over 50 and was the best finisher of his generation.

Dhoni has 30.5 million Instagram followers and this is likely to grow because he still represents the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, who have a big fan base themselves.

The 149 vs England in 2018 rates as the best innings played by Virat Kohli.
