Big Bash League Best Batsmen: The Top 5 Of All-Time

Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch have been two of the best batsmen in the Big Bash League for their respective franchises.

Big Bash League Best Batsmen

T20 Cricket in Australia has been a big hit for almost a decade now. Despite not winning a World T20, the Australian public has taken to their domestic T20 league very well, with very healthy crowd numbers each season. The Big Bash League, despite missing the best Australian batsmen such as Steve Smith and David Warner on a regular basis has thrived.

Other limited-overs superstars have stepped up in the BBL regularly and have helped their respective franchises to the title.

So, with all that in mind, who are the top 5 batsmen in BBL history?

Shaun Marsh

Shaun Marsh has played 54 games in the Big Bash League and has scored 2030 runs at a batting average of 44.13 – the highest number on this list. His strike rate of 127.91 is perhaps below the others on this list but he is ultra-consistent to make up for it. His batting has been an integral part of the Perth Scorchers success.

Shaun Marsh has also represented the Melbourne Renegades. He has 19 half-centuries to his name, with a highest score of 99.

In 79 games, Chris Lynn has scored 2421 runs at a batting average of 37.82 and at a strike rate of 149.90. He is the highest run-scorer in the history of the Big Bash League. His average and strike rate combined is very high, meaning that despite scoring quickly, he is very consistent.

Chris Lynn has only played for the Brisbane Heat. His only BBL title came when he was relatively new to the scene in the 2012-13 season. He is currently captain of the Brisbane Heat. Perhaps fans remember him best for being half of the most destructive pairing in BBL history, known as “The bash brothers” along with Brendon McCullum.

Glenn Maxwell

Perhaps the most dynamic player on this list. Glenn Maxwell has scored 2005 runs in the Big Bash League at a batting average of 33.98 and at a strike rate of 149.96. He has represented both the Melbourne Renegades and the Melbourne Stars. Unfortunate, Maxwell has not been able to help his franchise to a BBL title.

His batting has been a treat to watch, especially when he unfurls his wide range of shots. This includes the reverse sweep, the switch hit and the slog sweep. A great T20 batsmen who is incredibly dangerous.

Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch has played 67 matches in the BBL and scored 2358 runs at a batting average of 38.03. His strike rate is also very strong – 136.14. He has amassed two centuries and 18 half-centuries in this time, representing the Melbourne Renegades.

Aaron Finch slays Sixers in stunning BBL century

Aaron Finch was captain of the franchise when they won the 2018/19 BBL season, beating their rivals, the Melbourne Stars in the final. Finch is an awesome T20 batsman and remains a gun player at the top of the order.

D’Arcy Short

In the Big Bash League, D'Arcy short has been the best among batsmen for the Hobart Hurricanes.

D’Arcy short has played just 49 games in the BBL. However, he has scored 1866 runs at a batting average of 42.40. His strike rate of 142.55 is very strong and only behind Glenn Maxwell on this list. His average is also only behind Shaun Marsh. This proves that it is likely he could top the list in the future, with his consistency and hitting-ability.

Dynamite D’Arcy Short explodes with ton for the Hurricanes

He scored a superb 68 from just 44 balls in the 2017/18 final but could not help his side to victory, with the Hobart Hurricanes losing out to the Adelaide Strikers.

D’Arcy Short is number five on our list of “Big Bash League top 5 best batsmen.”
