As we approach the start of the 13th IPL season in the UAE, the overseas players are making their way to the country. Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Dwyane Bravo all won the CPL with the Trinbago Knight Riders recently. But, have you ever wondered who are the top 5 best West Indian players at IPL 2020?
West Indies players have been crucial to the IPL and have performed admirably with the bat and the ball. They are also athletic fielders. There are so many good imports from the West Indies, so some good players must miss out. But who makes it and who misses out on our list of top 5 best West Indian players at IPL 2020?
5. Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard is one of the best players that has ever played for the Mumbai Indians. He has repeatedly won them games from tight situations. Plus, he has saved from them collapses. The 2019 IPL final was a prime example. Against the Chennai Super Kings, he scored 41 of 25 balls on a slow pitch, while the others struggled around him. The Mumbai Indians eventually won by just 1 run.

Pollard has been in superb form in CPL 2020, with both the bat and the ball. Whether he bowls for the Mumbai Indians is yet to be seen. However, if the pitches in the UAE are slow, then it could suit his style of bowling and offer much more depth to an already strong Mumbai Indians outfit.
Kieron Pollard sits number five on our list of top 5 best West Indian players at IPL 2020.
4. Dwyane Bravo
Dwyane Bravo has been one of the best bowlers in the history of the IPL. He has been one of CSK’s prized assets right throughout the last decade. In his peak, he was much quicker then he is likely to be at IPL 2020. However, his experience and skill will still make him a deadly bowler and he is having a superb CPL 2020.
Bravo’s slower ball is perhaps one of the best in the game and he also has a pinpoint yorker. One of his greatest strengths to this day, is the ability to close out tight games in T20 Cricket. He does this, even if he has bowled poorly in his first few overs. A rare trait among T20 players.

With the bat in hand, Bravo is again a superb finisher and can play match-winning innings as he proved against the Mumbai Indians. CSK were tottering and on the verge of a defeat in their first IPL game back in 2018. Bravo saved them with a quite superb half-century against bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman.
Dwyane Bravo sits number four on our list of top 5 best West Indian players at IPL 2020.
3. Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine has been the star of the Kolkata Knight Riders for close to a decade. His debut season in 2012, yielded KKR’s maiden IPL trophy. In 2012, Narine picked up 24 wickets in just 15 games at a superb bowling average of 13.50. His economy rate of 5.47 was even more staggering. As a result, he won the most valuable player award that season.
In 2014, he helped KKR to another title. This time taking 21 wickets in 16 games. In 2018 he was voted as the player of the tournament again. That year he batted beautifully at the top of the order, as well as bowled pretty decently.

In this IPL, Narine will be looking to help KKR reach the play-offs at least. He has been in good form in the recent CPL games and finally has more help in the bowling department with KKR purchasing Pat Cummins.
He should also open the batting, considering that he is almost wasted down the order. Plus, Tom Banton will not be an easy player to fit into the side, with Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine himself, Andre Russell and Eoin Morgan all sure starters.
Sunil Narine sits number three on our list of top 5 best West Indian players at IPL 2020.
2. Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle is both an IPL and a T20 legend.
The only player to have scored over 10,000 runs in the format. Despite being well past his prime at IPL 2020, Gayle is still a force to be reckoned with. He has a massive build and generates power throughout his body. This means that his age is much less of a barrier. Should he connect with the ball, it is very likely going to go out of the park.

He has been good the last two seasons for the Kings XI Punjab. This, despite critics claiming that he could be nearing the end of his career. How he fits into the side will be a problem for KXIP. Gayle and Rahul form a dynamic opening partnership, but only four overseas players can be played. Should be find his form early though, he will overpower both Maxwell and Pooran for selection due to his force of nature.
Chris Gayle sits number two on our list of top 5 best West Indian players at IPL 2020.
1. Andre Russell
Andre Russell is perhaps the greatest West Indian player currently in the IPL. In the last edition in 2019, he was in the form of his life for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He scored 510 runs in the season at a batting average of 57 and at a strike rate of 205. His power-hitting is virtually unmatched.
Russell uses his strong arms and well-built body to generate force through the ball. This means that even shots that he mishits often clear the rope with ease. He is a superb finisher but can also be used at the top of the order.

Russell is an athletic and awesome fielder. He runs in hard with the ball in hand and can be used as a pace weapon. On his day, Russell can deliver four overs, making him the best all-rounder at the moment in IPL 2020.
Russell’s all-round package will once again be crucial to the fortunes of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
