MI IPL 2020 preview

Team :

In this article, we will be analysing MI in IPL 2020 plus giving our preview.

Teams always try to fill the gaps in their team in the auction. Mumbai Indians is probably the only team who had a complete squad even before the auction. Every team had some or the other loophole in their side before the auction. While on the other hand, MI had no requirements for the team as such.

Watch – Quinton De Kock and Nathan Couler-Nile on the Mumbai Indians’ safety protocols

They just went into the auction with the feeling of strengthening their side in each department. Interestingly, they got some good buys in the auction in Australian fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile who can strengthen the pace bowling attack in the team.

The most fascinating purchase for MI was Chris Lynn who was just bought at the base price. They even got a couple of youngsters. Hence, they were benefited in every department. What else does a team need?

MI led by skipper Rohit Sharma has decent batting power. Quinton de Kock might open the innings with the skipper Rohit. According to me, Rohit must open the batting. He’s specifically made for that purpose.

He loves batting against the new ball and that suits him in white-ball cricket as well. Once he gets comfortable in the middle, we all know what the “Hitman” can do. Hence, he must open for the betterment of the team. Rohit and de Kock can double the rate in the starting overs.

You might be wondering, where is the T20 superstar Chris Lynn?

Well, his current form in CPL is terrible. He has specifically struggled against the spinners and considering the fact that pitches will slightly favour the spinners in UAE, Lynn might not get the chance. Talking about the middle order, Suryakumar Yadav will play a crucial role as a number 3 batsman.

He has scored a huge amount of runs everywhere he has played. Moreover, he did fantastic last year as well. He’ll be followed by Ishan Kishan who can smash a couple out of the park. A solid batting line-up for MI in IPL 2020 according to our preview.

Frankly speaking, MI has all the boxes ticked except the spinners section. Their spinners department is led by Rahul Chahar who’s definitely a fine talent but is not that experienced. He’ll be accompanied by Krunal Pandya who bowls relatively faster. On the other hand, the pace department is well sorted.

A pace attack comprising of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Mitchell McClenaghan is simply unbeatable. Trent Boult will probably bowl with the new ball. Mitchell McClenaghan has a decent record in the death.

He’ll get the support from one of the best death bowlers in the world: Jasprit Bumrah. Hardik and Pollard can chip in through as well. I’m not sure if Hardik Pandya is fully fit for bowling as he could still be recovering from his back injury. Pollard is doing a fantastic job with the ball in CPL already.

As we know, Malinga will be missing the tournament this year. Hence, he will not be present. His experience used to imbibe confidence in the team. The way he finished it off last year was phenomenal. Anyway, they still have a solid bowling attack. They might face an issue in spinners department in the latter half of the tournament though.

Yet again, Mumbai Indians is the team probably with the best all-rounders. Pure power hitters in Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya followed by all round performer Krunal Pandya. Hardik Pandya showcased his power-hitting ability in the match against KKR last year wherein he took his team so close to the victory from a dead position.

Watch – Kieron Pollard match 17 TKR CPL

Whereas, Kieron Pollard is leading from the front for his team Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL. He’s looking in a great touch which is good news for MI. Moreover, Krunal Pandya will contribute his part as well. Therefore, they are solid in this section as well.

MI have one of the best set of all-rounders in IPL 2020 according to our preview.

Mumbai Indians can be titled as the best team in the IPL so far with the maximum of four trophies in their bag. Rohit Sharma has been phenomenal as a skipper for his team. One thing I love about MI is that they back their youngsters.

They’ve backed Ishan Kishan throughout the season. Also, they know how to capitalise the situation after a mistake from the opponent. And most importantly, they know how to win!

Therefore, I feel, MI is a strong contender in the tournament, as always. If they get a good start this season, then no one can stop them.
