Who Are India’s Top 5 Most Successful Batting Pairs In ODI Cricket?

Have you ever wondered who are the most successful batting pairs in One-Day Internationals? Especially, in the context of Indian Cricket?

First and foremost, team LastWordOnCricket wishes all our Indian readers a very Happy National Friendship Day.

While we celebrate friendship day in India today, here are India’s top 5 pairs who have contributed most (in terms of average) towards Indian victories.

The only filter we used is the pair should have at least batted for winning cause 25 times.

5. Rahul Dravid – Mohammad Kaif: 70.35

Kaif’s introduction to international cricket not only brought a revolution in Indian fielding but it also boosted the batting of Indian lower middle order.

The UP cricketer alongside Rahul Dravid batted on 25 occasions to score 1407 runs at 70.35 to take India through to victory many a time.

They were also involved in seven 100 run and 4 fifty run partnerships including their best of 132* for 6th wicket against Pakistan in Lahore 2004.

4. MS Dhoni – Yuvraj Singh: 70.72

Yuvraj Singh-MS Dhoni are India’s one of the most legendary duos. Right from 2005, these two have contributed towards the team’s victory in many ways.

They have combined toghether to make sure that India has finished on a winning note 40 times and scored 2334 at 70.72 crossing the hundred and fifty run marks 10 and 9 times respectively.

Their stand of 256 runs for fourth wicket against England in 2017 goes down as their best partnership in terms of runs. They rescued India from early trouble in that ODI. India were 25-3, due to brilliance with the new ball from Chris Woakes. However, hundreds with both MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh helped India win a thrilling contest by 15 runs.

3. Virat Kohli – Suresh Raina: 72.04

This might come as a surprise for many but Virat and Raina have come together 28 times to score 1657 runs at 72.04 and made sure that India wins the game.

The duo is never been talked much but have stitched 7 hundred runs and 5 fifty run partnerships to help India cross the line.

Their best while winning team against Sri Lanka in 2012 where they added unbeaten 146 in Colombo.

This arguably goes down as one of the least mentioned Indian batting pair.

2. MS Dhoni – Suresh Raina: 74.54

While talking about successful Indian pairs we always think of Dhoni and Raina.

In India’s victories, the duo has paired up 40 times to score 2311 runs at an average of 74.54 coming back unbeaten nine times.

In 2014, at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina rescued India from 132-4 to 304/6. The pair put on a partnership of 144. Suresh Raina scored a century in that game. MS Dhoni scored a half-century. Both played at quicker than a run-a-ball to help India to victory over England by 133 runs.

They also have had 7 hundred run and 12 fifty run partnerships which came into winning cause.

Perhaps one of the best pairs to watch among Indian batsmen because they know each other’s game really well. This is because of their time playing together for India and for CSK.

MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina sit second on the list of India’s most successful batting pairs.

1. Virat Kohli – Rohit Sharma: 81.88

The captain – vice captain duo of Rohit and Virat average the most when India wins.

These two have paired up to win India games 48 times having scored 3603 runs at a prolific average of 81.88.

They also have 14 hundred and 11 fifty run partnerships to their name while winning.

In recent times, the pair have been the best batting duo in world cricket, putting together scintillating partnerships. Along with Shikhar Dhawan and MS Dhoni, they have carried India’s batting over the last few years.

Their highest partnership came against West Indies in 2018 where they added 246 runs for 2nd wicket.
