Top 5 Players Who Could See The IPL 2020 Season As Their Last

Every IPL season brings some exciting young talents from around the globe to showcase their talent in the biggest and the grandest T20 league of them all. Along with that, it provides the opportunity for some old veterans to prove their worth in the toughest league in the world. We will look at the top 5 players who might bid adieu to the league after the end of this IPL 2020 season.

And as it has been confirmed by the BCCI that IPL will be played in UAE this year. The UAE’s rate of Covid-19 cases is significantly lower than that of India.

5) Harbhajan Singh

The turbanator has been one of the most successful bowlers in the history of the league. The veteran is the part of the unit of the Chennai Super Kings. Harbhajan Singh enjoyed a great season last year where he picked 16 wickets in just 11 games and played a crucial part in getting his team into the final of 2019 IPL.

Keeping the fact that CSK already has got many options in their spin department and also he’s not playing professional cricket on a regular basis and age, not by his side, this could be the last sight of the premier off-spinner in the IPL.

Harbhajan Singh is one of the few traditional off-spinners still remaining in a competition dominated by wrist spinners. It would be a shame to see him go.

4) Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn might be one of the top 5 players playing his last season for the RCB in IPL 2020

One of the fiercest and lethal fast bowlers ever, Steyn had a forgettable season in 2019 with the Royal challengers Bangalore. The South African pacer only played 2 matches in 2019 IPL before he was ruled out of the entire season with the shoulder injury.

Dale Steyn’s presence is a blessing for any team with a huge amount of International and IPL experience behind his back. But with his ever-growing age and fitness issues, some people think that this season will mark the end of the Proteas legend. He turned RCB’s fortunes around in just two games. The franchise won both games that he played.

3) Shane Watson

The veteran all-rounder is of the finest players ever to play in the IPL. He has played in every season of the IPL leaving the 2009 season and has performed exceptionally well for whichever team he has played for. Watson has been the most valuable player twice in IPL history. He won the award first in 2008 in RR’s title-winning season. He then won it again in the 2013 IPL season.

The 2 times IPL Winner is an asset for any team, but since he has stopped bowling and can play only as a pure batsman. The chances look dim for him to continue after the end of this year’s IPL. He had a superb 2018 IPL where he scored over 500 runs, including a century in the final. However, Shane Watson did struggle in the 2019 season.

2) Chris Gayle

Could Chris Gayle be one of the top 5 players playing his last season for the KXIP in IPL 2020

The universe boss is arguably the greatest ever player to play the T20 format. Chris Gayle has been one of the best performers in the IPL. He certainly enjoys playing in the IPL and has a great record amassing over 4000 runs with an astonishing strike rate of 151.02.

But the last few seasons haven’t been great for him by his standards. And as he’s already in his 40’s teams might not be interesting to have an aged Gayle in their team for the next edition of the IPL. Due to the mega auction in 2021, franchises could decide against Chris Gayle.

Chris Gayle could still be considered as one of the Top 5 most powerful batsmen in the 2020 IPL season. Considering he does not bowl anymore (similar to Shane Watson), Gayle could yet extend his IPL career. He is still incredibly fit and there is no reason to suggest that he cannot continue striking the ball for the next few years.

1) Lasith Malinga

The most successful bowler in the history of the IPL. Plus, one of the key members of Mumbai Indians, his numbers in the cash-rich league speaks for him. The Sri Lankan Legend has taken 170 wickets at an average of 19.82 in the 122 games he featured in.

Many thought that it was over for Lasith Malinga in the IPL but he returned as a player in 2019 and helped MI to win their 4th title. But as the Slinga is in the last phase of his career, the 2020 season could mark the end of the Yorker king in the IPL.

This concludes our list of the top 5 players who might play their last IPL in the 2020 season.
