IPL 2020 Start Date Confirmed

It is understood that the 2020 Indian Premier League will start on the 19th of September 2020 according to FirstPost. This is a week ahead of the previous date that was given – September the 26th 2020. The IPL 2020 start date is perhaps best for all involved.

A senior BCCI official stated that “A 51-day tournament suits all the stakeholders from broadcasters to the owners.

The tournament provides most benefits when it starts on a Saturday. This will likely entice more viewers and as always the BCCI has kept the final on a Sunday. Since the IPL will last above 7 weeks, there will not need to be as many double gamedays as previously.

The date for the Indian Premier League final will be on the 8th of November 2020. This has been scheduled in order to allow as much time as possible for India’s preparations for their Test tour to Australia starting from the 3rd of December.

Start Date Throws T20I’s Out Of Itenary

India was also scheduled to have 3 T20I’s in October, but this will very likely be cancelled now that the Indian Premier League has been scheduled in that timeslot. This could mean that those games will be either rescheduled or left out of the tour itinerary completely.

The IPL 2020 start date is also important because India will hope that they have at least a month after it finishes. This is because they would like to ensure peak fitness before a big tour.

Plus, some weekends are likely to have only one game per day. Broadcasters had complained previously that morning games (4 PM IST Start) were not being watched as much as the later (8 PM IST Start) games.

IPL 2020 Start Date Shifted To Accommodate Preparations For Franchises

The IPL is set to be played in the United Arab Emirates. This is because there has been a recent surge in cases of the coronavirus in India. In fact, there have been over 1 million confirmed cases in India and as a result is not a suitable venue.

Franchises are likely to begin preparations at least 4-6 weeks prior to the start of the Indian Premier League. This means that the BCCI could have clashes if they attempt to play a T20I series against South Africa in August due to the IPL 2020 start date.

The World T20 has been postponed and as a result, the IPL has been allowed to take place in its timeslot instead. Read more about the news below.

It will be interesting to see the nature of the pitches. The UAE has been normalised for having slow decks. The PSL often produces low-scoring affairs. If this is the case, the best bowling side may win. This is because low totals will likely have to be defended on a regular basis.

In such a scenario world-class spinners are also required. Plus, paceman who can bowl wicket-to-wicket.
