In an eventful Second Test in Hamilton; Trent Boult brought up another milestone in what was one of his most successful Test matches as New Zealand clinched the Test Series against West Indies after winning by 240-runs.

A defiant knock of 64 by Roston Chase and a well-played 34 by Kemar Roach did little by bite into the 444-run target set by New Zealand.

Speaking to Last Word On Cricket after the match; New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said he was delighted with how his side stuck to their plans in both Tests.

“We knew coming in how talented this West Indies side is after their win in England. The way we were able to keep pressure on with both the ball and the bat was credit to how we executed our plans.”

Attention will now turn to the ODI series beginning on December 20; and there is a lot to work on for the West Indies who will be disappointed to have underperformed so far on tour. Prior to the series there was a lot of expectation on the West Indies after they upset England in a Test match earlier this year.

But poor disciple and a lack of ability to bat for long periods of time hindered the tourists for the Second Test in a row this week in Hamilton. All told, New Zealand got home with relative ease.

West Indies Need To Work In Bowling And Fielding Discipline

Replacement West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite will rue some missed opportunities in the field, but also the appalling amount of no balls bowled by his seamers. A soggy crease on day one didn’t make it easy for the bowlers, but 24 no balls in the First and Second Innings combined is unforgivable at this level of cricket.

Midway through day three, the West Indies had their chance to snare quick wickets in succession, but the fielding wasn’t up to par. Ross Taylor’s record-equalling century (107 not out) was always going to put New Zealand in the box seat for victory, but impressive innings from opener Jeet Raval and Colin de Grandhomme had piled on the runs in the first innings to have built a strong lead to ensure the tourists were always chasing the game.

Trent Boult Achieves 200 Test Wickets As New Zealand Clinch Test Series

New Zealand’s premier fast bowler Trent Boult dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite early on Day Four to bring up 200 Test Match wickets. He is the sixth New Zealander to achieve the feat and sits fifth on the list of all-time left-armers in Test history.

With the bat, Boult smashed a quick-fire 37 in a last-wicket stand of 61-runs alongside Tim Southee in New Zealand’s first innings.

New Zealand had to work for their wickets, but typically on-point bowling by Boult and all the usual suspects ensured that the home side was always comfortable in defending their total.
