After being dominated on both sides of the ball last week, the\u00a0Virginia Tech Hokies\u00a0<\/strong>opened their ACC<\/strong> schedule against the\u00a0Boston College <\/strong>on Saturday. The Eagles\u00a0<\/strong>who haven’t won an ACC game in over a year. Virginia Tech looked like a completely different team this weekend as the Hokies shut down Boston College. The Eagles? Well, they looked pretty much the same.<\/p>\n

SCOT LOEFFLER RETURNS TO BLACKSBURG<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Scot Loeffler<\/strong> returned to Blacksburg on Saturday, but this time as a opposing coach. After spending three years with Virginia Tech Loeffler was named the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Eagles in January of this year. But Bud Foster’s\u00a0<\/strong>defense\u00a0wanted nothing to do with a happy\u00a0reunion.<\/p>\n

Loeffler’s offense in the first half was sluggish. The Hokies defense held the Eagles to only 92 total yards of offense with 62 coming on the ground and 30 through the air.<\/p>\n

The biggest question coming into the game centered around whether the Hokies could win the turnover battle. The resounding answer was Yes. In the first half Virginia Tech forced the Eagles in to one turnover\u00a0on the ground and one more\u00a0through the air. Meanwhile, the Hokies had no turnovers\u00a0in the first half.<\/p>\n

Jerod Evans<\/strong> had\u00a0three touchdown passes in the first half. One in particular came late in the first half when he found Isaiah Ford in the back of the end zone double covered. There were a few times Evans dropped back and would either overthrow or underthrow his receivers.<\/p>\n

For instance, in the second quarter Evans threw one up to Bucky Hodges<\/strong> streaking up the field but a slightly overthrown ball made Hodges reach out for it allowing it to slide right off his fingers.<\/p>\n

Other than that one pass in the first half, Evans was on fire throwing a total of 23 times completing 16 passes (69.5%) for 253 yards averaging 11 yards per pass.<\/p>\n

HOKIES STAY HOT IN SECOND HALF<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Leading off the second half Boston College got the ball but the Hokies defense forced a three and out. Evans came out and pounded the ball both through the air and ground. With just under 12 minutes left in the third quarter, Evans threw his fourth touchdown pass to tight end Chris Cunningham<\/strong>\u00a0to extend the Hokies lead to 28-0.<\/p>\n

With 30 plays from the Hokies being in Boston College territory, a flat route got Sam Rogers<\/strong> wide open and Evans found him for his fifth touchdown pass of the game.<\/p>\n

Heading late into the third a\u00a0touchdown run by Trayvon McMillian<\/strong> put the Hokies up 42-0.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech’s back-ups finished the game. There were some positive plays\u00a0from the second string guys.<\/p>\n

Marshawn Williams<\/strong> broke a couple tackles in the defensive secondary to help lead the offensive load with 15 carries for 81 yards.<\/p>\n

Brendan Motley<\/strong>, Evans backup took a designed draw play right up the teeth of the Eagles defense for a 26 yard touchdown run extending the Hokies lead to 49-0.<\/p>\n
