It starts with an entirely different style of play from what the Big Blue Nation had grown accustomed to under Mark Stoops. In addition, Stein has a totally different recruiting style. They are targeting the top prospects with a pitch of “why wouldn’t you want to play for Kentucky?” That pitch certainly worked as the Cats landed one of the top players in the nation Sunday night. Let’s introduce him as Kentucky Lands quarterback Jake Nawrot.

Big Time Win for the Cats

An Elite Signal Caller

Hailing from John Hershey High School in Arlington Park, Illinois, Narwot ranks as the second-best quarterback in the 2027 class by the 247Sports composite. Furthermore, he’s the 32nd-best player in the nation and the second-best player in Illinois. As a junior, the six-foot-three, 200-pound Nawrot threw for 3,078 yards and 41 touchdowns.

His passing yards set a school record while his touchdown total led the state of Illinois. In addition, he completed 71 percent of his passes. As if that wasn’t enough, he also ran for 124 yards and eight touchdowns. All this is coming in his first year of being a starter. He’ll compete at the Elite 11 Finals this summer.

As we continue introducing you to the Wildcats’ new signal caller, let’s show you who they beat out as Kentucky Lands quarterback Jake Nawrot.

Overcoming A Legacy

The Iowa Hawkeyes were long thought to be the favorite in the Nawrot sweepstakes. After all, his father, Paul, was a former walk-on linebacker who played for Hayden Fry from 1995 to 1997. In addition, his sister Leah is on the Iowa rowing team. Despite all of that, Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan were able to secure the commitment after visiting during spring practice.

Let’s go BIG BLUE NATION!! The first is Marshall transfer JacQai Long, who played in five games for the Thundering Herd last year. The other is Carson Cruver. He played in two games in two years at Florida Atlantic

Finally, one of the prized pieces of the incoming recruiting class is Matt Ponatoski. A highly rated quarterback from Cincinnati who was a huge recruiting win for the former staff. Ponatoski remained a Cat after Stein came on board.

Final Thoughts

Stein’s motto with his offense is “Feed The Studs.” Getting a player like Nawrot certainly puts the nation on notice that Kentucky is indeed going to be in the mix for the top players. This can only help get more instant impact guys to Lexington.

Kentucky Lands quarterback Jake Nawrot.
