While the Big 12 has earned its ‘chaos’ moniker with pride, there won’t be a need to dig deep into the tiebreakers this year. The top of the conference has proven to be a cut above the other 75% of the teams. However, that doesn’t mean everyone else has had a disappointing season.

Week 13 Big 12 Power Rankings: Two Weeks To Sort It Out Among Three Teams

16. Oklahoma State (Last Week 16)

The Pokes only had one more point (6) than turnovers (5) against Kansas State. Despite five turnovers, this game was still 7-6 entering the fourth quarter. Last Word has been telling everyone that this team has improved, but they still stink. Can they finally break through this week and get a win against UCF in Orlando?

15. Colorado (Last Week 15)

Deion Sanders’ team was on a bye week. They resume action against Arizona State this week.

14. UCF (Last Week 14)

Scott Frost got to experience what everyone else who has travelled to Lubbock has experienced in 2025 (sans the tortilla toss). It was so one-sided that Texas Tech ran a 16-play, 10:07-long drive without scoring to kill off the last of the fourth quarter. The Knights still have an outside chance to get to a bowl game. While that would include upsetting BYU, they still need to handle business this week against the Pokes.

13. West Virginia (Last Week 13)

This West Virginia team has been different since getting run off the field by UCF in mid-October. While they are just 2-2 in their last four games, their two losses have been by a combined score of eight points. The defense has held three of those opponents under 26 points. However, they still lost to an Arizona State team playing with its backup quarterback. The Mountaineers head into a bye week before closing out the season with Texas Tech.

12. Iowa State (Last Week 12)

The Cyclones had the week off. They get back to action against the Jayhawks.

11. Baylor (Last Week 11)

Changes are coming in Waco. That might not mean Dave Aranda is gone. But something must change, specifically with the defense. Utah is a great team. But coming off a bye week, at home, the Utes ran for 380 yards in a 55-28 blowout. The offense still was able to move the ball (563 yards of total offense), but couldn’t finish drives. With Arizona and Houston left on the schedule, the Bears are in serious trouble of missing Bowl Season.

10. TCU (Last Week 10)

For those counting at home, the week 13 Big 12 power rankings have been unchanged so far from last week. TCU’s abysmal performance normally would warrant a demotion, but no team won a game behind them. The Horned Frogs’ inability to win games they should have won earlier in the season (and even the previous week against Iowa State) finally revealed how flawed this team is when compared to the top teams in the league. A 6-6 record is very much at play, and would have plenty of folks in Fort Worth grumbling during the offseason.

9. Kansas (Last Week 9)

Kansas was on its second bye. They take on Iowa State this week.

8. Kansas State (Last Week 7)

“Buzz, your girlfriend, woof!” Not sure how else to describe the Wildcats’ win over Oklahoma State. It was a win. But they were outgained by the last-place Cowboys. The Wildcats needed every one of the five turnovers they forced to survive the trip to Stillwater. Now, they must travel to Utah, where the Utes are looking to make a playoff statement down the stretch. Cue up the cringy “good luck” for this limping ‘Cats team.

7. Houston (Last Week 6)

Willie Fritz’s team resumes action this week when they welcome a sputtering TCU squad to Houston.

6. Cincinnati (Last Week 4)

We have finally arrived at the area of the week 13 Big 12 power rankings where significant movement has happened. In what was arguably the biggest two-game homestretch for Cincinnati since Luke Fickle was coaching this program, the Bearcats didn’t clear the first hurdle. Losing to a quality opponent at home isn’t a crime. But coming off a bye week and to be outplayed in just about every facet of the game is disappointing. While the Bearcats aren’t mathematically eliminated, they would need significant help to reach Arlington (and that assumes they beat BYU and TCU).

5. Arizona (Last Week 8)

How about the job Brent Brennan has done in year two? There were justifiable conversations heading into this season about him being on the hot seat. Instead, this team scored its biggest win of the season on the road against Cincinnati. Much like Cincinnati, they are still mathematically alive for a title berth. Noah Fifita had a 2023-esque type of game where he was crisp and in rhythm all game. But they need even more shenanigans to take place in front of them. However, there is a pretty good chance the Territorial cup will involve two 8-3 teams to close out the season. It would be the biggest matchup in the rivalry since 2014.

THREE TEAMS FIGHTING FOR ONE TICKET

4. Arizona State (Last Week 5)

The case for Big 12 coach of the year appears to be an open-and-shut case. But the job Kenny Dillingham has done this year certainly warrants consideration. With his name circulating for plenty of open positions, his Sun Devils team keeps winning. He has seemed to ensure the offense plays to backup quarterback Jeff Sims’ strengths. This team continues to win despite mounting injuries. If they close out Big 12 play with wins over Colorado and Arizona, holding that tiebreaker against the Red Raiders could prove to be the difference.

3. Utah (Last Week 3)

Kyle Whittingham’s team is playing like a playoff team. The biggest issue this team faces is that it lost to the only two teams it couldn’t have beaten. The 27-point drubbing of Baylor is the smallest margin of victory by the Utes in Big 12 play. There is no reason to expect this team to finish anywhere other than 10-2. Assuming Texas Tech and BYU win out, their only losses would be to teams that will finish ranked in the top 10. Here’s hoping the playoff committee continues to reward Utah for its excellence.

2. BYU (Last Week 2)

Any talk about Kalani Sitake’s team getting beaten so badly by Texas Tech that it would Crumble (the founder of the company is a BYU graduate) was quickly put to bed Saturday night against TCU. Now the task at hand is very simple for BYU. A road win against Cincinnati on Saturday essentially clinches a ticket to Arlington. Even with a loss to UCF at home (highly unlikely), BYU would still get in under most tie breaking scenarios. The Cougars have not been nearly as dominant on the road as they have been at home. Can they clear the final remaining hurdle for a shot at redemption against the Red Raiders.

TICKET TO ARLINGTON IN PEN

1. Texas Tech (Last Week 1)

The comprehensive butt-whopping Texas Tech put on UCF didn’t officially clinch a spot for the Big 12 title. But what it did prove is that this team appears to be let-down proof. The simplest path, outside of just winning in two weeks, is a BYU win over Cincinnati and one loss by Arizona State in their last two games. In that scenario, the West Virginia game would be meaningless in terms of play for the much-coveted Big 12 title. But with a needed bye week, and two weeks to prepare for Rich Rodriguez’s revitalized team, the expectation is Joey McGuire will make sure his team closes out the regular season emphatically.

The week 13 Big 12 power rankings should not be much of a surprise to anyone who has watched this conference.
