In fact, some dubbed this one the “SEC Coaching Hot Seat Bowl.” The reason, both Mark Stoops and Hugh Freeze have been the subject of tons of speculation about their futures. The game turned into a defensive battle, and at the end of the day Kentucky’s was better. Let’s recap the action as Kentucky breaks their losing streak 10-3.

Defenses Lead The Way

Heading into Saturday night, both Auburn and Kentucky were near the bottom in most SEC offensive statistics. So it was no surprise this turned out to be a defensive struggle.

The first quarter was made up entirely of punts, three by Auburn and two by the Cats. Finally, the Kentucky offense got something going. Cutter Boley took Kentucky 44 yards in nine plays before stalling. Jacob Kauwe nailed a 48-yard field goal, and the Wildcats were up 3-0.

Late in the second quarter, Tiger quarterback Ashton Daniels finally got his club into Kentucky territory. However, he was sacked on a fourth and six at the UK 41.

Late Half Issues

For those who’ve followed both the Kentucky program and our coverage of the Wildcats, you know they’ve had issues in the last few minutes of halves. Unfortunately for the BBN it happened again. With a minute to go in the half, Boley was picked off by Elijah Melendez, who returned it 28 yards to the Wildcat 35.

Daniels moved the Tigers down to the Kentucky nine-yard line. Alex McPherson was true from 27, and we were tied 3-3 at the half. If you’re a Wildcat fan, being tied after dominating most of the half was certainly deflating.

Finally A Score

Kentucky took the second-half kick and put together a great drive. Going 75 yards in 10 plays, Boley converted two huge third downs to Fred Farrier, one for 13 yards and the other for 32. On a second and five from the Auburn 13, Boley found Kendrick Law, who did the rest, and the Cats led 10-3.

.@KendrickLaw2 capping off the drive in the ENDZONE.

📺 – SEC Network pic.twitter.com/nNcqRSwan3

— Kentucky Football (@UKFootball) November 2, 2025

From there, we entered another battle of punts, two for each team. With Daniels largely ineffective, Freeze went back to Jackson Arnold. He didn’t find much success either, as defensive coordinator Brad White kept dialing up pressure, and it worked to perfection. Of course, with Kentucky football, nothing’s ever easy, and that was the case late in the game.

Fortune Finds The Cats

Over the years, we’ve seen time after time how Kentucky manages to pull defeat from the jaws of victory. For a moment, it looked like it was happening again. However, the Cats got a huge break. While many criticized the conservative play calling in the loss to Texas, this time around, that may have been better.

The one thing you can’t do in that situation is turn the ball over. What happened? Boley was picked off on a bad pass. However, Cam Miller stripped the ball, causing a fumble which was recovered by UK. Seriously, that kind of play never goes the Cats’ way.

Kentucky went three and out, but Aidan Laros pinned Auburn at their nine-yard line. That’s something he did all night, averaging 44.8 yards a punt with all six landing inside the 20.

Auburn had one more chance, and Daniels, who had reentered the game, threw a Hail Mary on fourth and 20. Jordan Lovett was the only player around and picked it off in the end zone as Kentucky broke their losing streak 10-3.

Looking Ahead

With the win, Kentucky goes to 3-5 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. They’ll return home next week for a battle against Florida. The Gators nearly upset Georgia today. As for the Tigers, they drop to 4-5 on the year and 1-5 in league play. They’ve dropped five of six since starting 3-0. One has to think Freeze’s seat is even hotter now.

Let’s look at some key stats as Kentucky breaks its losing streak.

Final Thoughts

If there was ever a blueprint for a Mark Stoops win, this was it. The Wildcat defense held Auburn to 241 yards, had seven sacks, and 12 tackles for loss. In addition, they held the Tigers to 121 yards through the air despite missing two of their top cornerbacks due to injury. This comes a week after being torched by Tennessee..

Kentucky gets its first SEC win since beating Ole Miss last September. Furthermore, they end an 11-game losing streak to power four clubs. It’s also the first win over Auburn since 2009, when they also won on the road.

Whether this makes Stoops’ seat less warm remains to be seen. However, it should be noted that he got a huge hug from Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart after the win. This came after the UK head man was nearly in tears during the post-game interview.

At the end of the day, it’s a great win for the Wildcats as Kentucky breaks their losing streak 10-3 over Auburn.

Main Image: Jake Crandall/ Advertiser / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

First SEC Win In Over A Year When Kentucky and Auburn met Saturday night under the lights down on the Plains, it was a battle of teams needing wins.
