Let’s get to our Week 3 Heisman list. We’ve also charted which players’ stocks are on the rise and which are slipping.

Honorable Mention Trinidad Chambliss, QB, Ole Miss

Trinidad Chambliss has a national championship under his belt. Last year, he led Ferris State to the D2 National Championship. In May, he made the decision to transfer to Ole Miss. He earned his first start in D1 and the SEC on Saturday night in Oxford before 60,000+ fans. To be clear, Chambliss might, and we stress, might have played in front of 60,000 fans total last year. But don’t worry, Mr. Go30. The moment didn’t get too big. Instead, Chambliss rose to the occasion. Subbing for Austin Simmons, Chambliss showed off his arms and legs in the Rebels’ win over Arkansas. He completed 21 of his 29 passes for 353 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 62 yards and two scores. Lane Kiffin may now have not one, but two quarterbacks.

#5 Rocco Becht, QB, Iowa State Cyclones (NR) & Dante Moore, QB, Oregon Ducks (NR)

Two for one. What a deal. Let’s talk about Rocco Becht, our Week 0 hero against Kansas State. He is the quarterback of the currently undefeated Iowa State Cyclones. Iowa State is off this week before heading to Arizona to resume Big 12 play.

Dante Moore was on our early list this summer, but finds himself back on our list after the Ducks took care of business in the Windy City. Shout out to Northwestern, by the way, making chicken salad with the best of a bad situation. They tore down their old stadium and converted their soccer/lacrosse facility on Lake Michigan into a makeshift football field. The sights are iconic, even if Northwestern’s play is not.

Nobody will ever describe Moore as uninspired. On Saturday afternoon, Moore had 16 completions on 20 attempts for 178 yards, with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He led Oregon to a 34-14 win. This week, the Civil War comes to Eugene as the Ducks welcome in the wayward Oregon State Beavers.

#4 Garret Nussmeier, QB, LSU Tigers (⬇️ 2)

What is wrong with the LSU offense? Especially on third down? Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves; we enjoy Brian Kelly carrying on like someone stole his Lucky Charms. There was plenty of smoke about Garrett Nussmeier sticking around to try to improve his draft stock. One would not have to go too far out on that limb to say that this year’s performance has not helped his draft stock. Nussmeier had a mixed performance on Saturday night against Florida. We all keep waiting for him to “make plays,” but we are still asking for more. Sure, he threw for 220 yards and a touchdown against the Gators. But throwing a costly touchdown where you are throwing across your body to the middle of the field is not great (B0b). Nussmeier is a good person and quarterback, although it might be time to advocate for him to get a new jersey.

#3 Jeremiah Smith, WR, The Ohio State University Buckeyes (NC)

It’s time to go back and look at the Texas game. No, we are not looking for Arch. His 10 straight incompletions couldn’t be further from this list. Where Jeremiah Smith has been neutralized by the Longhorn secondary, nobody else has had the same luck. A week after torching Grambling, Smith went off in a big way against the Athens Bobcats. Smith finished the game with 9 receptions for 153 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown, plus a 17-yard rushing touchdown.

#2 Carson Beck, QB, “The U” Miami Hurricanes (⬆️ 2)

There was no bull about it on Saturday. Carson Beck and his new Hurricane teammates were locked into their game against South Florida. Beck continued to show that his right arm is fully recovered from the UCL damage from last year’s SEC Championship. On Saturday, Beck threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns, fearing not to be overlooked by Georgia’s new Quarterback, Gunner Stockton. Beck also rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown. Gameday will be in Miami Gardens this week for the Hurricanes game against Florida. The Gators appear broken and ripe for the taking. With as much success and winning as Beck and Hurricane head coach Mario Cristobal have had, this one still feels like it could get weird. Then again, they are playing Florida. The Gators have enough trouble of their own.

#1 John Mateer, QB, Oklahoma Sooners (NC)

We still haven’t figured out why a team from the SEC had to play Temple IN Philly. Does that sound pretentious? Well, if the shoe fits. John Mateer continued to be the spark for the Sooners’ offense in their win over the Owls. Mateer threw for 282 yards and a touchdown and continued to show off his elusiveness with a 51-yard touchdown score. Mateerr wasn’t brought in, though, to beat up on lil ole’ Temple. He was brought in to help restore Oklahoma to the top of the SEC. The Sooners will get their first chance on Saturday afternoon when they host Auburn. Mateer can be just what the doctor ordered for Brent Venables and the Sooners. Last year, they let Jaxson Arnold hit the Portal and take his talents to The Plains. The game on Saturday will help determine if they made the right choice (hint: they did).

Main Photo: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

What do you get when you put together six quarterbacks and one of the best wide receivers in the country?
