The Nittany Lions have cast a wide net across the country, identifying high-upside prospects on both sides of the ball. These 16 uncommitted recruits represent Last Word on Sports’ evaluation of the most important targets to complete Penn State’s 2026 class, based on positional need, scheme fit, and long-term potential in Happy Valley. All rankings below are based on either the 247Sports Composite ranking or the 247Sports ranking (for those that do not have a Composite ranking).

Inside Penn State Football’s 2026 Recruiting Priority Board (according to LWOS)

1. Joey O’Brien | 5⭐️ATH | La Salle College HS (PA)

O’Brien headlines the safety board with versatility and star power. O’Brien hauled in four picks at the OT7 Finals, showcasing elite range and instincts. He fits perfectly in Jim Knowles’ hybrid defense, offering positional flexibility, IQ, and communication skills for the Penn State defense. Under safety coach Anthony Poindexter, he could become a foundational piece. O’Brien’s two-way upside also allows him to contribute offensively.

2. Brian Bonner | 4⭐️RB | Valencia HS (CA)

Bonner could be a game-changer in Penn State’s future backfield. Bonner brings a 10.48-second 100-meter dash and explosive acceleration. His skillset fits Penn State’s multiple spread offense and complements Messiah Mickens as a lightning-quick counterpunch. Under Stan Drayton’s development, Bonner could become an every-down weapon for Penn State.

3. Luke Wafle | 4⭐️ Edge | The Hun School (NJ)

Wafle has the build and motor that aligns with Penn State’s prototypical edge. He has the frame and athleticism to grow into a 260-pound strong-side end. His brother, Owen Wafle, recently transferred to Penn State, offering family familiarity. Wafle projects as a physical fit in Knowles’ front.

4. Jackson Samuels Ford | 4⭐️ Edge | Malvern Prep (PA)

Ford has emerged as a top strong-side fit in Knowle’s defensive scheme. He is listed as an “athlete,” and his frame and edge/TE background give him the tools to thrive in multiple alignments. His size, length, and strength match what Penn State seeks on the edge in its 4-2-5 scheme.

5. Khary Adams | 4⭐️ CB | Loyola Blakefield (MD)

Adams brings elite length and physicality to the boundary corner role, an asset in press coverage and contested catch situations. His frame and coverage skillset mirror those of current Penn State cornerback A.J. Harris and fit a man-heavy scheme.

6. Cincere Johnson | 4⭐️ LB | Glenville HS (OH)

A commitment from Johnson to Penn State could flip the script in the ongoing battle for Ohio talent. Johnson posted 205 tackles last season and brings physicality to the linebacker position. A decision between Penn State, Alabama, and Ohio State is expected on June 19th.

7. Dorian Barney | 4⭐️ CB | Carrollton HS (GA)

Barney would bring length, ball skills, and man coverage ability to Poindexter’s secondary. He has 13 varsity interceptions and thrives in man coverage. His commitment would represent a win over SEC programs, including his home state Georgia Bulldogs.

8. Carter Scruggs | 4⭐️ OT | Loudoun County HS (VA)

Projected as a future left tackle who visibly carries a Big Ten-style frame, Scruggs is 6-foot-6 with long arms and a 3.95 GPA. He’s a developmental left tackle prospect who fits PSU’s physical identity. Scruggs’ traits on film show he could also kick inside and play guard at an elite level for the Nittany Lions.

9. Travis Johnson | 4⭐️ WR | Oscar Smith HS (VA)

At 6-foot-4, Johnson shows a reliable route-runner with big-play ability downfield and in contested catch situations. He’s a long strider whose film shows an ability to make defenders miss after the catch. Johnson offers perimeter size and early-impact traits that would be an excellent fit for PSU’s vertical and red zone passing attacks.

10. Tavian Branch | 3⭐️ OL/DL | Riverside HS (PA)

Branch could provide Penn State with flexibility as a two-way force. His ability to play both guard and defensive tackle would offer the coaches an excellent problem to have in deciding where his services are most needed. Branch’s film shows power and quickness which make him a two-way asset in the trenches on either side of the ball.

11. Brayden Fogle | 4⭐️ TE | Lexington HS (OH)

Fogle’s basketball background shows in his leaping and catch radius, making him an absolute matchup nightmare from the tight end or flex tight end positions. He’s a seam-stretching tight end with versatility and clear red-zone value that could help Penn State continue its tradition of elite tight end play.

12. Carter Meadows | 4⭐️ EDGE | Gonzaga College HS (DC)

Meadows is a 6-foot-6 pass rusher ranked No. 34 nationally. His length, bend, and ability to attack from the 5-tech make him a future star and a potential game-wrecker in the mold of Penn State Nittany Lions past. He’ll visit Penn State on June 13th, followed by Michigan and Ohio State.

13. Tyson Harley | 4⭐️ EDGE | Gonzaga College HS (DC)

Harley’s quick first step and active feet give him a natural burst off the edge. Additionally, his ability to redirect in space allows him to stay active on plays that extend beyond the pocket. He’s also a two-sport athlete (basketball). That background shows in his movement skills, especially when changing direction or working laterally.

14. Keshawn Stancil | 4⭐️ DL | Clayton HS (NC)

Stancil’s combination of size, strength, and technique, along with his ability to quickly gain leverage and disrupt plays in the backfield, shows consistently in his film. In addition to his football prowess, Stancil competes in track and field, recording a 49-7 shot put throw as a sophomore. This shows his athleticism and power.

15. Benjamin Eziuka | 3⭐️ IOL | Detroit Catholic Central (MI)

Eziuka has made a name for himself not only on the football field but also in the wrestling arena, earning All-State honors. His experience in both sports shows up in his balance, pad level, and hand usage. His film displays a strong base, quickness off the line, and the ability to generate push in power-blocking schemes—all qualities that fit well with what Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein values in his unit.

16. Damari Simeon | 4⭐️ DL | St. Augustine Prep (NJ)

Simeon is a 6-foot-3, 275-pound interior lineman whose rare movement skills and relentless motor show up on film. His size and play style align with the traits Penn State seeks in rotational 1-tech and 3-tech defenders. This anchors against the run while creating interior disruption with leverage and explosiveness.

Closing the Class, Raising the Ceiling for the Future of Penn State Football

With summer visits underway and key decisions on the horizon, Penn State’s pursuit of these 16 uncommitted prospects will help define the final shape of its 2026 recruiting class. Each target reflects a calculated need. Whether it’s adding elite speed, shoring up the trenches, or reinforcing a defense that thrives on versatility under Knowles. If the Nittany Lions can land even a handful of these top-tier recruits, it would not only round out an already impressive class but also mark a step forward in Penn State’s continued rise as a premier national recruiting power.

Main Image: Matthew O’Haren-Imagn Images

Penn State Football’s 2026 recruiting efforts are entering a crucial stretch as James Franklin and his staff look to capitalize on official visit season.
