The former three-star recruit earned significant playing time in a veteran linebacker room at Washington despite his youth. House is transferring to North Carolina and will play for Bill Belichick in Chapel Hill.

Earlier this week, the anticipated news of Steve Belichick leaving Washington finally broke. The inclusion of the younger Belichick on the coaching staff at North Carolina was a stipulation of Belichick’s plan for the Tar Heels. At Washington, House tallied 35 tackles and played over 300 snaps in the younger Belichick’s defense in 2024. He’ll continue his career with Belichick in the ACC with three years of eligibility remaining.

Transfer Portal Impacts Washington Offense

On offense, Washington’s starting left guard and left tackle this past season are headed out. Left tackle Kahlee Tafai has committed to Minnesota. The Los Angeles native started four games this season, but he was slated behind Soane Faasolo and Maximus McCree. The Huskies also brought in Kansas State transfer left tackle Carver Willis, adding to the competition in the room. With three years of eligibility remaining, Tafai will be one of two left tackles with meaningful playing experience in Minneapolis. He’ll have a more direct path to a starting role for PJ Fleck.

Cameron Davis is joining Tafai in Dinkytown. The sixth-year player returned to health in 2024 in the Husky backfield but was slated behind Jonah Coleman all season. Though Davis started two games, he only tallied 44 carries for 190 rushing yards. He had a more significant role for Washington in 2022, but injuries and incoming transfers bumped him down the depth chart. He’ll be a Gopher next season with one year of eligibility remaining. Minnesota’s Darius Taylor is the focal point of that backfield. But Davis will be a veteran presence in a running back room that will see four players departure by way of the transfer portal or graduation before next season.

Husky left guard Gaard Memmelaar has signed with UCF. The veteran offensive lineman started every game but one in 2024 at left guard, playing over 500 snaps. He didn’t allow a sack this season and will have one year of eligibility remaining for Scott Frost’s Knights. Though he has signed with the Knights, Memmlaar will play in the Sun Bowl for Washington.

Additional Transfer Destinations

Starting punter Jack McCallister has announced he’ll be staying in the Big Ten. He’ll punt for Nebraska next season, but will still punt for Washington on New Year’s Eve in the Sun Bowl. This season, McCallister averaged a career-high in yards per punt and hang time with 44.2 yards per punt and 3.89 seconds per kick. McCallister pinned 13 punts inside the 20-yard line and will have one year of eligibility in Lincoln.

EDGE Lance Holtzclaw is transferring to Utah to play football next season. In a loaded EDGE room at Washington, Holtzclaw did not start a game this season and played just 114 snaps. But he made one of the plays of the year for Washington, taking down USC quarterback Miller Moss on fourth down to secure a victory over the Trojans. Reserve safety Tristan Dunn is transferring to Cal.
