Sources confirm to Last Word on College Football that Notre Dame has reached a contract extension with head coach Marcus Freeman. Terms of the agreement are not yet available. It is believed the extension adds four years to his current deal, theoretically locking him up for Notre Dame for a total of six more years. Of course, there are early exit clauses on both sides of the agreement.<\/p>\n

The financial terms are not likely to be disclosed.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame\u2019s Marcus Freeman To Get Contract Extension<\/h2>\n

The 38-year-old Freeman just finished his third season as Notre Dame\u2019s head coach<\/a>. He is 30-9 over that time and has the Fighting Irish in the expanded College Football Playoff. That record includes a loss as interim head coach in the 2021 Fiesta Bowl.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame will face Indiana in the first round that starts this weekend. But that is not to say Freeman has not had his challenges this season. Notre Dame had what is considered one of the worst losses among the playoff teams. The Irish lost at home to Northern Illinois in week two of the season.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame issued a prepared statement Sunday night in Freeman\u2019s name. “I am grateful for the support of the Board of Trustees, led by John Veihmeyer, President Fr. Bob Dowd, C.S.C., and Director of Athletics Pete Bevacqua,” Freeman said in a prepared statement. “The investment they continue to pour into our program is invaluable to our student-athletes and staff. This commitment goes well beyond myself, as they are dedicated to ensuring all aspects of our program are competitive within the upper echelon of college football.”<\/p>\n
