Each year, the top tight end in the country is rewarded with the Mackey Award. This year, the competition has been as stiff as any positional award. Penn State’s Tyler Warren<\/a> has been one of the top overall college football players in the nation. Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin, Jr.<\/a> was the cornerstone of the 7-5 Falcons’ offense. Michigan’s Colston Loveland<\/a> was, at times, the only receiving threat on the Wolverines’ offense.<\/p>\n

At ESPN’s The Home Depot College Football Awards Show<\/em>, it was Warren who reigned supreme and took home the award. He becomes the first Nittany Lion to win the award in its 25-year history.<\/p>\n

Penn State’s Tyler Warren Wins 2024 Mackey Award<\/h2>\n

In addition to being named a finalist for the Mackey Award, Warren was a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award (which was later awarded to Colorado’s Travis Hunter<\/a>).<\/p>\n

A First-Team All-Big Ten<\/a> selection and Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year,<\/a> Warren was widely considered to be the top tight end in the conference. Now with the Mackey Award, he’s the top tight end in the country.<\/p>\n

The redshirt senior recorded an incredible 1,062 yards and six touchdowns off 88 receptions. Heading into this season, Warren had amassed just 606 yards and 11 touchdowns off 49 receptions in four years.<\/p>\n

He was a do-it-all-type of player for Penn State this year as well. He added 191 yards and four touchdowns off 23 carries. They also had him throwing the ball where he completed three-of-five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n

Warren has five games with at least eight catches and four games with at least 100 receiving yards on his resume this season. His signature performance came at USC when he caught 17 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown on a play he began as the center. He also rushed for four yards and completed one pass for nine yards in that game.<\/p>\n
