The same thoughts and feelings will hold as we preview the Week 10 SEC slate. This weekend will be the last opportunity for teams across the Southeastern Conference before the College Football Playoff committee releases its first rankings next Tuesday. Those rankings will help set the narrative and provide clarity and insights into how the committee will view the SEC. Four of the eight AP Top 25 ranked teams are playing this weekend, each facing an unranked opponent. While this may sound like a treat, each will try to avoid being tricked. Our Week 10 SEC eyeball watch focuses on these four matchups before we get to the betting lines.

Border War Madness

No. 19 Ole Miss travels to Arkansas on Saturday for an 11 a.m. local kickoff in Fayetteville. The loss to Kentucky a few weeks ago and an upcoming November tilt against Georgia next week have reduced the Lane Train’s margin of error. Anyone who knows the history of these two teams understands that these games tend to get weird. From 4th and 25 conversions to two one-point victories in the last seven meetings, the Border War is not for the faint of heart. This makes for one of the more intriguing watches from the Week 10 SEC slate.

Cocktails and Jorts

No. 2 Georgia heads to Jacksonville to face the Gators in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Georgia is coming off a bye week and a dominating performance of No. 1 Texas in Austin two weeks ago. For the first time in two years, the Dawgs looked like the teams that won back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022. The Gators would love to play spoiler and are the last team outside Alabama to defeat Georgia (2020). The task, though, is tall. Kirby Smart always seems to have an axe to grind against the Gators, and Florida will have to rely on Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway to lead them. These games have not been close in the last three years; look for the trend to continue.

Can the 12th Man Avoid the Sandstorm?

The Aggies are rolling. No. 10 Texas A&M travels to Columbia to face the Gamecocks on Saturday night. This is our upset special pick of the Week 10 SEC Slate. Texas A&M overcame a 21-7 halftime deficit last week in College Station to knock off LSU and vault them alone atop the SEC. In theory, the path to Atlanta is simple. Win, and you’re in. In reality, the path is littered with landmines. Welcoming Texas back to College Station to close the season. A trip to Jordan Hare. Those games are all in the future, let’s get to what could be the biggest trick of the weekend. The Gamecocks present are ripe for the upset. South Carolina has a strong defensive front and has put a real scare into LSU and Alabama earlier this season. Shane Beamer has also shown a flare for the dramatic and pulled-out wins he necessarily shouldn’t have. Aggies beware.

Dark Mode in Knoxville

Tennesee already won the Halloween best costume competition this weekend. The Vols are trading their iconic orange uniforms for dark-mode jerseys on Saturday night. That should make for an electric atmosphere in Knoxville. The Vols have dominated the series against Kentucky, and the Wildcats come in at just 1-5 in SEC play. The one win was against Ole Miss and could be a factor in potentially derailing the Rebel’s hopes of bringing a playoff birth to the Sip. Add in a one-point loss to Georgia, and Kentucky has shown the potential to play spoiler in 2024. Nico Iamaleava has shown big-play ability as his first-year signal caller in Knoxville, but turnovers and missed deep balls have also cost the Vols. A win on Saturday gives Tennessee a path to the playoffs; they just need to avoid mistakes.

Week 10 SEC Betting Lines

Rankings are based on the AP media poll.
