Among the surprises for Saturday night\u2019s game at Kyle Field in College Station is the youth movement on the offensive line.<\/p>\n<p>After losing Joe Alt and Blake Fisher to the NFL, Notre Dame is in a rebuilding mode upfront. Notre Dame\u2019s coaching staff has made a bold decision, opting to entrust the protection chores to a group of inexperienced yet promising underclassmen for the season opener. Freshman <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/anthonie-knapp-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthonie Knapp<\/a> won the starting left tackle job over senior <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/tosh-baker-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tosh Baker<\/a>. The expectation has been that the Duke transfer would be the starter since he joined the Irish through the transfer portal last December. Leonard has overcome an ankle injury suffered in Duke\u2019s loss to Notre Dame last season. Following a pair of surgeries, Leonard is healthy heading into the first game of the season against his former coach Mike Elko, now with Texas A&amp;M. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2024\/08\/19\/notre-dame-team-captains-named-for-2024-season\/\" target=\"_self\">Leonard is also a team captain<\/a> this season.<\/p>\n<p>QB1 Riley Leonard (Sr.)<br \/>\nQB 2 <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/steve-angeli-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Angeli<\/a> (Jr.)<\/p>\n<h3>Running Backs<\/h3>\n<p>Offensive standout <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jeremiyah-love-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremiyah Love<\/a> will be a starter for the first time against Texas A&amp;M. As a freshman, Love rushed for 385 yards on 71 carries. He averaged a solid 5.4 yards per carry. He also has good hands and is effective in the screen game. Love caught eight passes last season for 77 yards and a touchdown. Love saw limited playing time in 2023. He primarily backed up Audric Estime, who has since moved on to the Denver Broncos.<\/p>\n<p>RB1 Jeremiyah Love (So.)<br \/>\nor <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jadarian-price-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jadarian Price<\/a> (Jr.) or<br \/>\n<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/aneyas-williams-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aneyas Williams<\/a> (Fr.)<br \/>\nor <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/devyn-ford-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devyn Ford<\/a> (Sr.)<\/p>\n<h3>Wide Receiver<\/h3>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/beaux-collins-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beaux Collins<\/a>, a graduate transfer from Clemson, provides a veteran presence to a young Irish offense. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2024\/07\/01\/beaux-collins-a-new-offensive-weapon-for-notre-dame\/\" target=\"_self\">Collins racked up 91 receptions for 1,290 yards<\/a> and 11 touchdowns for the Tigers. Sophomores <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jaden-greathouse-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaden Greathouse<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jordan-faison-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Faison<\/a> have also been named starters. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jayden-thomas-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jayden Thomas<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/kris-mitchell-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kris Mitchell<\/a> are certain to see plenty of playing time as well in a stacked wide receivers room.<\/p>\n<p>WR1 Beaux Collins (Sr.)<br \/>\nor Jayden Thomas (Sr.)<\/p>\n<p>WR1 Jaden Greathouse (So.)<br \/>\nor Jayden Harrison (Sr.)<\/p>\n<p>WR1 Jordan Faison (So.)<br \/>\nor Kris Mitchell (Sr.)<\/p>\n<h3>Tight Ends<\/h3>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/mitchell-evans-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mitchell Evans<\/a> was on the cusp of becoming one of the country\u2019s best tight ends last season before he was injured. A knee injury halted his season after eight games. Despite missing the final four games of the 2023 season, Evans ended the season as the team\u2019s top receiving target. He caught 29 passes for 422 yards and scored one touchdown, averaging 14.6 yards per catch.<\/p>\n<p>TE1 Mitchell Evans (Sr.)<br \/>\nTE2 <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/cooper-flanagan-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cooper Flanagan<\/a> (So.)<br \/>\nTE3 <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/eli-raridon-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eli Raridon<\/a> (Jr.)<\/p>\n<h3>Defensive Line<\/h3>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jordan-botelho-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Botelho<\/a> played in all 13 games for the Irish a season ago, starting 12 as the team\u2019s primary Viper. He recorded 32 tackles, 18 solo. Botelho had 4.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He also accounted for three quarterback hurries. Botelho has been named to the Watch list for the 2025 Senior Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>Starting defensive tackle <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/rylie-mills-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rylie Mills<\/a> played and started in all 13 games last year. He finished the season with 47 tackles, 22 solo. Mills added 5.5 tackles for loss and recorded 2.5 sacks. He forced four quarterback hurries and recovered two fumbles. Like Botelho, Mills has been named to the Watch list for the 2025 Senior Bowl. He is also a team captain this year and has been named to the Lombardi Award Watch list.<\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/howard-cross-iii-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Howard Cross III<\/a> started all 13 games as the Irish\u2019s defense\u2019s nose tackle. He finished the season second on the team with 66 tackles, 28 solo. Cross added seven tackles for loss, had two sacks, and totaled four quarterback hurries. He also forced a pair of fumbles. He also recorded a pass breakup and forced three quarterback hurries and a fumble. He tied for second among all FBS players in kickoff return touchdowns with two. Harrison played in all 13 games for Marshall, starting four at wide receiver. He totaled 28 receptions for 410 yards and a touchdown.
