A suspect in the shooting of Auburn running back Brian Battie<\/strong>, Battie\u2019s brother, and others has been arrested after surrendering to authorities this afternoon.<\/p>\n

WSSB-TV<\/em>, the ABC station in Sarasota County, Florida confirms that Darryl Brookins<\/strong> turned himself in to the Sarasota County Sheriff\u2019s Department Wednesday. Last Word<\/em> reached out to the sheriff\u2019s department for more details on Brookins, but our call has not been returned as of publish time. Brookins\u2019 attorney confirmed that his client surrendered to the sheriff\u2019s department, per ABC7<\/em> in Sarasota.<\/p>\n

Tommie Battie IV<\/strong> died at the scene from the injuries suffered during the shooting Saturday<\/a>. His brother, Brian was wounded and is still listed in critical condition per school officials. Earlier this week, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze<\/strong> put on X, (formerly Twitter), that Brian Battie<\/a> is still on a ventilator in the hospital. Brian is headed for his second season at Auburn after spending three years at the University of South Florida.<\/p>\n

The shooting occurred around 3:30 am Saturday in the 3400 block of 17th<\/sup> Street in Sarasota, the hometown of the Battie brothers. The shooting was near the Tallywood Centre Place.<\/p>\n

There is no motive given by authorities for the shooting. They also are not releasing the exact number of people shot at the location or the medical condition of any of the other victims. They also have not released what the charges for Brookins will be. Specific booking and arraignment information is still pending.<\/p>\n

At the time of the shooting, the sheriff\u2019s department referred to it as an isolated incident.<\/p>\n
