The positive recruiting momentum continued today for LSU as five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood<\/strong> committed to the Tigers. Underwood ranks as the number one overall player in the 2025 247Sports Composite rankings and is the second commitment for the \u201925 class for LSU in three days. Underwood calmly committed in a ceremony at his high school after thanking his family and coaches.<\/p>\n

Underwood’s Recruitment Process<\/h3>\n

With Underwood hailing from Belleville, MI, LSU overcame the proximity of Michigan to secure his commitment. Underwood also had a late visit to Alabama. The Tigers have been considered the leader in his recruitment for months, with Underwood making multiple unofficial visits to Baton Rouge with his family. Four-star quarterback Carter Smith<\/strong>\u2019s November commitment to Michigan contributed to public confirmation that LSU was the team to beat for Underwood.<\/p>\n

Underwood has an ideal size of 6\u20193\u201d and 210 pounds. His strong arm and athleticism to extend plays flashes consistently on film. He\u2019s started at Belleville High School since his freshman year and threw for over 2700 yards as a sophomore. Belleville returned to the state championship game in Underwood\u2019s sophomore year as he threw for 40 touchdowns and only three interceptions.<\/p>\n

Path to the Field<\/h3>\n

As the roster currently stands, Underwood could be joining a crowded quarterback room at LSU. Projected 2024 starter Garrett Nussmeier<\/a> will have the option to come back for his senior year. Baton Rouge native Rickie Collins<\/a> will be a redshirt sophomore and \u201924 recruit Colin Hurley<\/strong> will be a freshman if he redshirts. In this era of college football, it\u2019s unlikely that all three quarterbacks on the roster will still be there in \u201925.<\/p>\n

It’s not out of the question for Nussmeier to play well enough to leave for the NFL after one season as the starter. If that’s the case, Underwood could have a quicker path to the field if he can beat out Collins and Hurley. Roster depth is not always a factor in high-profile recruits\u2019 decisions. Underwood has stated that development was one of his main priorities in choosing a school. He\u2019s also previously spoken about his attraction to LSU.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat coaching staff, amazing coaching staff, amazing atmosphere. The program itself is very historical. A lot of great players went in and out of Louisiana State University. The food is amazing. It\u2019s a lot of real people out there. A lot of people are from Michigan. A lot of things we can relate to,\u201d said Underwood.<\/p>\n

LSU’s Hot Start<\/h3>\n

Underwood is LSU’s eighth commitment for the 2025 class<\/a>. LSU now has commitments from the top quarterback, running back, and wide receiver in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class. The Tigers are the only team at this point with three five stars in their class. Now that LSU has hired a new defensive coordinator in Blake Baker<\/strong>, the addition of position coaches will help in its efforts to capitalize on a talented defensive class of Louisiana players.<\/p>\n
