The weeks to follow included wins over\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2023\/09\/13\/rutgers-showing-growth-at-2-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Temple<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2023\/09\/16\/scarlet-out-at-shi-stadium-rutgers-vs-virginia-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Virginia Tec<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">h. And while spirits are high, this week\u2019s matchup against the Wolverines hovers over Piscataway like a dark storm cloud.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Michigan to Test Rutgers\u2019 Win Streak<\/h2>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Game Details\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Who:<\/strong> Rutgers vs. University of Michigan<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>When:<\/strong> Saturday, September 23 at 12:00 PM EST<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Where:<\/strong> Michigan Stadium \u2013 Ann Arbor, Michigan<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>How to Watch:<\/strong> Big Ten Network, Fubo TV, Fox Sports App<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gavin Wimsatt Will Lead the Team in the Big House<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It&#8217;s been a great season for Rutgers quarterback,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/gavin-wimsatt-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gavin Wimsatt<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. He remains one of only two quarterbacks in the Big Ten that have not thrown a single interception this season (the other being Penn State\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/drew-allar-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Drew Allar<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">). We\u2019ve seen Wimsatt run for multiple touchdowns himself and the on-field relationship between him and running back\u00a0<\/span><strong>Kyle Monangai<\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>heat up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">There\u2019s no doubt that this week will be their biggest challenge yet. In fact, it may be their biggest challenge all season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Michigan is Wimsatt\u2019s first opponent that he is returning as a starter against. Last season, Rutgers played Goldilocks with their quarterbacks. They bounced between contenders, trying to see who was the best fit. At the end of the 2022 season, they failed to find their \u2018just right\u2019 guy. Nonetheless, Wimsatt\u2019s off-season growth and pre-season performance earned him his position as Rutgers\u2019 starting quarterback this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, while playing this game of Goldilocks, Wimsatt was chosen to start against Michigan last year. He went 14 of 29, passing for 166 yards, scored one touchdown, and threw three interceptions. Now he\u2019s ready to face the Wolverines again, new and improved.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Who Will Take the Field for the Scarlet Knights?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rutgers has been missing some key players this season. Running back\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/aaron-young-5.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Aaron Young<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0was an exciting return to Rutgers\u2019 roster this season but has yet to see field time. After head coach\u00a0<\/span><strong>Greg Schiano<\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0announced that Young was at almost full recovery from his injury in week two, he was rumored to make his return against Virginia Tech. To the dismay of many disappointed fans, he did not return to the field in week three. There has not been any word on his status for this week\u2019s game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">While Rutgers\u2019 offense would be stronger with Young in place, they have been managing just fine with\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2023\/09\/19\/kyle-monangai-leads-rutgers-to-3-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Monangai<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in place. Monangai has been crushing his own team records this season, continuing to pick up yardage and points as the weeks move along.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Naseim Brantley<\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the wide receiver transfer who came to Rutgers in the offseason, is still on hold to play while Schiano fights an NCAA eligibility ruling against him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The injury report stays clear of defense players with the exception of one defensive back.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/max-melton-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Max Melton<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/deion-jennings-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Deion Jennings<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/aaron-lewis-4.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Aaron Lewis<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0are key defensive players who will take the field once again this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Wolverines to Watch Out For<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To ask which players from Michigan pose a threat is like asking how many of your friends have birthdays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The answer: all of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ranked at number two in the nation, the life of Rutgers\u2019 win streak is more likely than not to come to an end this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Amongst a team of greats, there are three players the Scarlet Knights should spend more time preparing to come up against. Three players on Michigan\u2019s roster earned spots on the Pro Football Focus Top 50 list during the pre-season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">At number 45 on the list is the 6\u20193\u201d, 304-pounder,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/kris-jenkins-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kris Jenkins<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. This defensive lineman ended the 2022 season tied up for the most defensive stops in the nation from an interior defensive lineman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Number 21 on the list is defensive back\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/will-johnson-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Will Johnson<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Johnson came to Michigan last season as a top-20 recruit. He ended the season with an 88.2 overall grade, tying him up for the highest grade from a Power Five true freshman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">And at number four on the list is\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/blake-corum-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blake Corum<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, a Michigan history-maker. His 96.2 overall score made him the highest-graded player in the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">While not on PPF\u2019s list,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jj-mccarthy-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">J.J. McCarthy<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is a huge threat to Rutgers\u2019 defense.
