Transitioning From Buckeye To Penguin"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Needed Change\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Needed change is a big process. \u00a0Transitioning from a Buckeye to a Penguin is rare to see.\u00a0 However, one of the star players that is already being looked at without <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2022\/04\/25\/defense-beats-offense-in-return-of-ysu-spring-game\/\" target=\"_self\">any practice<\/a> or start to the season is former Ohio State safety <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/ohiostate\/football\/ohio-state-football-former-safety-marcus-hooker-transferring-to-youngstown-state\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Marcus Hooker<\/strong><\/a>, the brother of first-round pick <strong>Malik Hooker. <\/strong>Marcus committed to the Penguins this past month.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Hooker&#8217;s Time At Ohio State\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hooker originally went to Ohio State starting at free safety during his redshirt freshman season in 2019.\u00a0 That season he finished with seven tackles and a pass deflection.\u00a0 In <a href=\"https:\/\/ohiostatebuckeyes.com\/roster\/marcus-hooker\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2020<\/a>, Hooker started more games in the shortened season, improving with 15 total tackles and his first collegiate interception.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately for Hooker his potential came a little too late. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/ohiostate\/football\/ohio-state-football-safety-marcus-hooker-enters-name-into-transfer-portal\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Injuries<\/a> became a problem along with <a href=\"https:\/\/scarletandgame.com\/2022\/04\/28\/ohio-state-football-unfortunate-case-marcus-hooker\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">off the field<\/a> issues and he didn\u2019t start a single game in 2021 under coach <strong>Ryan Day<\/strong>.\u00a0 Because of this and other issues that happened off the field, he decided to enter the transfer portal which led him to Youngstown State.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>How Can This Help YSU?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last season, Youngstown State&#8217;s defense ranked<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/stats\/football\/fcs\/current\/team\/22\/p3\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> 120th<\/a> in defense which is fourth to last in the FCS and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/stats\/football\/fcs\/current\/team\/457\/p2\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> 67th<\/a> in passes intercepted.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking back at a couple of games, especially the game against Penn State in 2020, there\u2019s potential for Hooker who has great eyesight for the ball.\u00a0 Consistency, issues off the field, and injuries have been a problem but if this is controlled this season, look for Hooker to have big games and get the defensive back game going strong for the Penguins.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Time will tell.\u00a0 The players have reported for summer workouts and the season is coming upon us.\u00a0 Only three more months until opening kickoff against Duquesne. \u00a0The team has already finished up their GRIT camp and with some summer practice and weight room training, it&#8217;s time for Hooker and the Guins to prepare for this 2022 campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"NUlzEcfLT8dXPCqkQ_NY2A\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7;
