However, there are a lot of questions on the offensive side of the ball with incoming transfers and new, fresh talent. The Aggies will have to depend on their best players at every position on offense to compete in the SEC West. On that note, here are the best players at each position on offense for the Aggies.

Offense

Quarterback: Haynes King

Haynes King was the starter for the Aggies last season before his injury. The quarterback room also features two talented quarterbacks in Max Johnson and Conner Weigman. Johnson didn’t show much promise last year at LSU, and Weigman needs some time to develop his game as a freshman.

King offers a special aspect to the offense with his dual-threat ability. While he is not exactly an elite passer, King is capable of making big plays for Texas A&M. His consistency is needed for the Aggies’ offense to become more productive.

Running Back: Devon Achane

The running back group is deep for Texas A&M this season. Both Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane had good arguments last year for being the best running back for the Aggies. Nonetheless, it is clear that Achane will get the most carries in 2022 over the likes of LJ Johnson Jr. and Amari Daniels.

Achane had an outstanding season in 2021 with over 900 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He also plays key roles in both the passing and return games, which makes him a valuable player for Texas A&M. If he’s able to have another great year, expect him to be a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Wide Receiver: Ainias Smith

The wide receiver room is abundant with talent for the Aggies, but senior Ainias Smith will definitely be the top pass-catcher. He was recruited to Texas A&M to play running back, but Jimbo Fisher found Smith to be a great slot receiver. In his last two seasons, Smith has finished with over 1,000 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.

Other players such as Evan Stewart and Caleb Chapman could have a great season in 2022, but Smith will likely be King’s go-to receiver. Smith is a player with experience, and he has adapted himself to the college game. He knows how to beat man coverage, and he’s clever in finding the weak spots in zone coverage.

Tight End: Donovan Green

The biggest loss on the Aggies’ offense is undoubtedly tight end Jalen Wydermyer. Now, Texas A&M has two players at tight end, who are both true freshmen: Donovan Green and Jake Johnson. These two will likely battle it out for the starting spot, and Green should earn that position in the Fall.

Johnson ranks as the better tight end according to 247Sports, but these two athletes are very similar in dynamics and game. Green does have the capability to block better in the running game, which could earn him the spot over Johnson.

Offensive Line: Aki Ogunbiyi

The departure of offensive guard Kenyon Green to the NFL will definitely impact the Aggies’ offensive line next year. Ogunbiyi will likely make the transition to right guard, and he could be the leader and voice of the offensive front. He is a man with aggression, and he is pivotal to Texas A&M’s rushing attack.

Ogunbiyi was a consensus four-star recruit according to all major recruiting outlets, and he could enter the NFL Draft as early as 2023. Nonetheless, he will have to earn his spot among the top offensive linemen this season, and he’s capable of guiding his unit to earn the Joe Moore Award in 2022.

Concluding Thoughts

Obviously, it’s quite difficult to figure out the best players at each position for the Texas A&M Aggies on offense. While these players may not exactly be the ‘most talented’, their experience and numbers give each a high potential to succeed for Texas A&M next season. The quarterback and wide receiver groups are positions that have depth, but definitely need improvement from 2021. It will be interesting to see how these top players fare in the upcoming spring game for the Aggies’ Maroon and White game next Saturday, April 9th.

[pickup_prop id=”20845″]

Embed from Getty Images

The Texas A&M Aggies have an extremely talented roster coming into the 2022 season.
