Edge defender <a href=\"https:\/\/247sports.com\/player\/chase-brackney-46129709\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chase Brackney<\/a> announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes over several other significant offers. The edge rusher became the fourth player in the class of 2023 to commit to Iowa, which currently has the sixth-best class in the Big Ten conference according to 247Sports. Brackney is out of Cherry Creek High School in Colorado and brings with him a three-star grade and 87 overall rating.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Hawkeyes Land Edge Talent<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a junior, Brackney tallied 82 total tackles and four sacks on the season. He added two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his team\u2019s state championship season. Cherry Creek won the Colorado Class 5A state title after shutting out the previous number one team in the state. The Bruin defense was exceptional at the high school level, and Brackney is one of the leaders at the defensive front. Brackney is the fifth-ranked player in the state, and 42nd nationally at his position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hawkeyes brought in a highly-touted group of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2021\/12\/17\/evaluating-iowas-2022-recruiting-class\/\" target=\"_self\">three and four-star defensive linemen in their 2022 class<\/a>. <strong>Phil Parker<\/strong> continues to add to the depth at the position for 2023. Brackney has great size and athleticism at his position and can play on both the inside and outside on the defensive line. The three-star committed to the Hawkeyes over offers from USC, Nebraska, Colorado, and California.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Colorado Roots<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Colorado native trains in Colorado Springs with former Hawkeye defensive back <strong>Jordan Bernstine<\/strong>. Brackney has been working out with Bernstine since seventh grade and has shown traits of playing &#8220;the Iowa Way&#8221; according to the former safety. After visiting the campus and meeting the coaching staff, Brackney described Iowa as \u201ca perfect fit.\u201d He brought up the academic structure for student-athletes that Iowa provides, and the consistency of the coaching staff. With the dramatic changes of the coaching carousel lately, the consistency at Iowa seems like a rarity. Brackney values this and added, \u201cIowa just felt like home\u2026 When you know, you know.\u201d Cherry Creek High School also produced current Hawkeye quarterback <strong>Alex Padilla<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brackney is 6\u2019-4\u201d and 260 pounds and will play in his senior year at Cherry Creek next fall. He will add to the increasingly talented group of young defensive players entering the Hawkeye facilities.
