After a very disappointing loss to Kentucky, Florida returned to the Swamp for homecoming weekend against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Florida shuts out Vanderbilt, 42-0,\u00a0 Saturday and the Gators are ready back on the rebound.<\/p>\n
Florida\u2019s win on Saturday afternoon was their eighth straight win against Vanderbilt. It was also their 30th<\/sup> win in their last 31 meetings. Emory Jones<\/a> and Dameon Pierce<\/a> both had career games against Vanderbilt.<\/p>\n As a team, the Gators put up 479 yards of total offense with almost 300 of those yards coming through the air. Florida\u2019s defense was on the field a lot this past Saturday but was able to pitch their first shutout of the season and also forced two turnovers.<\/p>\n The Vanderbilt Commodores are still looking for their first SEC win of the season and in the Clark Lea<\/strong> era. They are also still looking for their first points scored against an SEC opponent as Georgia and Florida have both shut them out in their two SEC games.<\/p>\n Vanderbilt quarterback Ken Seals<\/a> had a rough game against the Florida defense. Seals completed 22 out of 43 passes for 192 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Vanderbilt also had their struggles running ball as they were held to 88 rushing yards as a team.<\/p>\n Freshman Patrick Smith<\/a> did have a solid game on the ground as he rushed for 75 yards on seventeen carries. Wide receiver Cam Johnson led the Commodores in receiving with four receptions for 49 yards.<\/p>\n On defense, linebacker Anfernee Orji<\/a> played very well against the Gators offense. Orji led the Commodores in tackles with seven. He also had two solo tackles and one QB hurry. Safety Dashaun Jerkins<\/a> and linebacker Elijah McAllister<\/a> both had interceptions in the loss.<\/p>\n The Florida Gators improve to 4-2 on the season after a pretty convincing win against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Florida quarterback Emory Jones had a career game in the passing game. Jones completed 14 out of 22 passes for 273 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.<\/p>\n Senior running back Dameon Pierce<\/strong> also had a big game in which he found the end zone three times. Pierce only ran for 12 yards but he had two rushing touchdown. He also only had one receptions but it was 61-yard touchdown pass on a 2nd<\/sup> & 26.<\/p>\n Junior wide receiver Jacob Copeland<\/a> led the Gators in receiving with five receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown. Gainesville native wide receiver Trent Whittemore<\/a> had three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Ja\u2019Quavion Fraziars<\/a> caught his second touchdown of the season.<\/p>\n On defense, sophomore safety Rashad Torrence II<\/a> had a big game as he led the Gators in tackles with fifteen. He also had six solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Redshirt-freshman linebacker Antwaun Powell<\/strong> had a career game with two tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.<\/p>\n Ty\u2019ron Hopper<\/a> continues impress with seven tackles and half a sack in the win over the Commodores. Freshman defensive end Justus Boone<\/a> and redshirt-sophomore outside linebacker Lloyd Summerall III<\/a> both shared a sack towards the end of the game. Defensive tackle Daquan Newkirk<\/a> and safety Trey Dean III<\/a> both also had an interception in the win over Vanderbilt.<\/p>\n The Florida Gators will hit the road. Florida will travel west to take on the LSU Tigers in Death Valley. LSU comes into this game with a 3-3 record after losing to the Kentucky Wildcats 42-21.
