The <strong>Dores<\/strong> will return home for\u00a0<strong>Ole Miss<\/strong> and <strong>Tennessee<\/strong>. \u00a0<em>Can<\/em> Vanderbilt run the table? Will their <strong>Black Death<\/strong> defense lead by\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vucommodores.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/mtt\/zach_cunningham_853227.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Cunningham<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vucommodores.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/mtt\/oren_burks_853217.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Oren Burks<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0be strong enough to hold off their opponents? Will the offense get into the much-needed rhythm? (Photo by: Kate Pearson-Halyburton, LWOS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Auburn<\/h3>\n<p>Vanderbilt has beaten Auburn the last two times they have played\u2026<em>In <strong>Nashville <\/strong><\/em>(2008 and 2012)<em>. <\/em> The last time that Vandy beat Auburn <i>outside<\/i>\u00a0of Nashville was New Years Eve 1955 in the <strong>Gator Bowl<\/strong>. \u00a0Can they beat Auburn? YES! Any given Saturday, any team can be beat. <strong>Gus Malzhan<\/strong> stated several times in his weekly press conference, \u201cVanderbilt has our full attention.\u201d \u00a0 If\/when the <strong>Commodores<\/strong> WIN in Auburn, it will give the Dores their third straight win, the team\u2019s longest winning streak since 2013. \u00a0It would also be Vandy\u2019s third straight win over Auburn, as well as the Commodore\u2019s, first win over a ranked team since 2013. \u00a0Cunningham is going to need another career game. The entire defense will need to be suffocating against Auburn\u2019s offense and running back <strong>Kamryn Pettway.<\/strong> The offensive line will need to open the holes for the dynamic duo of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vucommodores.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/mtt\/ralph_webb_853254.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ralph Webb<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vucommodores.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/mtt\/khari_blasingame_908888.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Khari Blasingame<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0Important to note that Pettway and Webb are ranked one and two in the <strong>SEC<\/strong>. They should be able to hold them off this year in <strong>Columbia<\/strong>. First year head coach <strong>Barry\u00a0Odom<\/strong> is experiencing some growing pains as the Tigers struggle to find their identity. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vucommodores.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/mtt\/derek_mason_882317.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Derek Mason<\/strong> <\/a>is well aware of the trials and tribulations of being a first time head coach. He has reached out to Odom to offer advice. \u00a0With that being said, the Dores are going to go into Columbia with a fire in their belly as they are on a mission to go bowling in the post season.\u00a0\u00a0 Missouri is 2-6 as they travel to take on the <strong>Gamecocks<\/strong> this weekend. The Dores will need to win this game to keep their bowl dreams alive.<\/p>\n<h3>Ole Miss<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t lose the game we just ran out of time,\u201d <strong>Vince Lombardi<\/strong> once said. Mason could have said the same about the Commodores last year in <strong>Oxford<\/strong>. Vandy stayed within striking distance the entire game thanks to the Black Death defense. They did not give up any big plays. <strong>Johnny McCrary<\/strong> was under center with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vucommodores.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/mtt\/andy_ludwig_941943.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Andy Ludwig<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s first year as offensive coordinator. Neither of which held up against the <strong>Rebels<\/strong> smothering defense. Last year in <strong>Knoxville<\/strong> was nothing to write home about. Yet we are in a completely new season. Tennessee is caught in a dumpster fire. This <em>IS<\/em> the Volunteers year, or not. \u00a0They have hit the skids as of late. Not to mention their inner team turmoil that lead to their offensive star <strong>Jalen Hurd<\/strong> leaving the team this past week. Head coach <strong>Butch Jones<\/strong> has lost control of his locker room. While Vandy is moving in the right direction. \u00a0They are getting stronger with each game. They are gelling at the right time and playing their SEC foes with a reckless abandon. They are taking all opponents very seriously. Mason will have his team ready for each match up. Shurmur and the offense are getting more comfortable as the season progresses. They are finding their rhythm on a consistent basis.
