We’ve made it to Championship November. Quite often not only does the championship race take shape during this month, but the Heisman race does as well. The unfortunate news of Trevor Lawrence<\/a> testing positive for Covid has opened the door to make this a much tighter race. But, how much headway was Mac Jones<\/a> and Justin Fields<\/a> able to make? Let’s take a look as we unveil our week seven 2020 Heisman rankings.<\/p>\n

Zach Wilson<\/a> could end up being the candidate with the most to win this weekend. With BYU playing their first ranked opponent against Boise State he could catapult his way up the rankings. Additionally, two names that we cannot leave out is Devonta Smith<\/a> and Grayson McCall<\/a>. Smith had a career day against Mississippi State with 11 catches for 203 yards and four touchdowns. And McCall has Coastal Carolina into the top 15 in the country with a five-touchdown performance against Georgia State. Now, let’s look at the extended leader board in our week eight 2020 Heisman rankings.<\/p>\n

Lawrence was diagnosed with Covid and missed the Boston College game and will miss this weeks matchup against Notre Dame as well. Unfortunately, besides his health, there are a couple of things going against Lawrence here. The fact that D.J. Uiagalelei<\/a> performed so well and the offense did not miss a beat works against him. If he performs well again this week against Notre Dame his value may drop once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jones continued his stellar play with a four-touchdown performance against Mississippi State on Saturday. The Tide offense is continuing to stay hot with another 40 point performance. However, with the loss of Jaylen Waddle<\/a>, it will be interesting to see how defenses start to try to take away Devonta Smith.\u00a0 The Tide have this week off before traveling to Baton Rouge.<\/p>\n

It’s only two games, but Fields is within striking distance of winning this award. With Lawrence missing two games, Fields appears to be the clear beneficiary of that lost time. He currently has as many incompletions (7) as total touchdowns on the year. He should be able to pad those statistics against an improved, but not yet on Ohio State’s level, Rutgers team on Saturday.<\/p>\n

After another tune-up in which Wilson and BYU passed with flying colors, they finally get their marquee matchup. On Friday night, the Cougars battle Boise State on the blue turf in prime time. With Lawrence sitting out another game due to Covid, Alabama in a bye week, and Ohio State playing Rutgers this could be a huge opportunity for Wilson to make a statement and move up in the rankings.<\/p>\n

Etienne was phenomenal Saturday against Boston College. The Tigers needed someone to step up in a big way with Lawrence out and Etienne did just that. He had over 220 all-purpose yards with two touchdowns in the come from behind win. The Tigers will need everything he has this week as Clemson faces what figures to be its toughest challenge of the year against Notre Dame in South Bend.<\/p>\n
