{"id":29929,"date":"2020-07-07T09:00:59","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T13:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordoncollegefootball.com\/?p=29929"},"modified":"2020-07-06T15:07:03","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T19:07:03","slug":"ohio-state-all-decade-team-offense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2020\/07\/07\/ohio-state-all-decade-team-offense\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio State All-Decade Team: Offense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There were almost too many great Buckeyes to select for the Ohio State All-Decade team.<\/p>\n<p>The 2010s were a decade of change for not only Ohio State but for college football. Although, the decade didn&#8217;t start off well for Ohio State.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/coaches\/jim-tressel-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jim Tressel<\/strong><\/a>, who led the Buckeyes to three BCS National Championship games and one National Title, was fired because of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ohio_State_Buckeyes_football#%22Tattoogate%22\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tattoogate<\/a>&#8221; after the 2010 season. The Buckeyes went 6-7 in 2011 under interim head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/coaches\/luke-fickell-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Luke Fickell<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After some delayed gratification, the Buckeyes brought in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/coaches\/urban-meyer-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Urban Meyer<\/strong><\/a>. He not only restored Ohio State to its former dominance but transformed the program into an offensive powerhouse. Despite the departure of Meyer in 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/coaches\/ryan-day-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ryan Day<\/strong><\/a> took the reigns and didn&#8217;t skip a beat. His team went 12-0 in the regular season and won the Big Ten Championship Game before losing to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2010s, Ohio State was either a division champion or co-champion in the Big Ten in every year that there have been divisions, except for 2011. They are the only team in the Big Ten that can say that.<\/p>\n<p>While Wisconsin (six) has one more Big Ten Championship Game appearance than Ohio State (five), no team has more wins (four) than Ohio State. Three of those wins were against Wisconsin, and Ohio State has never lost to a Big Ten West representative.<\/p>\n<p>In this decade, Ohio State has won one National Championship, had two undefeated regular seasons, four conference championships, and won six bowl games.<\/p>\n<p>But most importantly, they went 9-1 against Michigan, winning the last eight in a row.<\/p>\n<h2>Ohio State All-Decade Offense<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 22px;\">QB: Dwayne Haskins<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was hard to leave out <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jt-barrett-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>J.T. Barrett<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/dwayne-haskins-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Dwayne Haskins<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 one season was unbelievable. His completion percentage of 70.0, 4,831 passing yards, and 50 passing touchdowns are far above any other performances at quarterback. Barrett still deserves recognition for his accomplishments over a four-year span. But it&#8217;s so close, Haskins and Barrett aren&#8217;t No. 1 and No. 2, but No. 1a and No. 1b.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 22px;\">RB: Ezekiel Elliot, J.K. Dobbins<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was the easiest position to decide. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/ezekiel-elliott-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Ezekiel Elliott<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jk-dobbins-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>J.K. Dobbins<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are two of the best to ever do it in Columbus. Dobbins and Elliott are numbers two and three on Ohio State\u2019s all-time rushing list, respectively. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/carlos-hyde-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Carlos Hyde<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was worth a mention as well, though he wasn\u2019t quite at the same level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WR: Michael Thomas, Devin Smith<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/michael-thomas-3.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Michael Thomas<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gets attention because of his NFL success, but many forget that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/devin-smith-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Devin Smith<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was one of the best deep threats in the country. In his senior year, Smith had 931 yards, 28.3 yards per catch, and 12 touchdowns. Those are all better stats than Thomas ever had at Ohio State. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/kj-hill-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>K.J Hill<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gets an honorable mention for consistency over four years. Even though he was consistent, he didn\u2019t make this list because he was never the best receiver on the team.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TE: Jeff Heuerman<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tight end position is mostly a blocking position at Ohio State. But <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jeff-heuerman-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jeff Heuerman<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gets the nod here because he was the best all-around player at the position. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/marcus-baugh-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Marcus Baugh<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was the best receiving tight end this decade, but blocking was more important for<\/span>\u00a0Meyer.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flex: Curtis Samuel<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of all the players at the H-back position, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/curtis-samuel-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Curtis Samuel<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fit it the best. He entered the program as a running back and would likely have been a great one if he had to stay there. But his ability at wide receiver drew the attention of the Carolina Panthers. His pure athleticism helped him fit wherever they needed him. Whenever Samuel lined up in the formation, he was usually the best athlete on the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OT: Taylor Decker, Jack Mewhort<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b>Jack Mewhort<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> started his career at guard but ended up at left tackle where he was an All-American in 2013. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/taylor-decker-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Taylor Decker<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> replaced him and won All-America honors himself two years later. Both were taken in the early rounds of the NFL Draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IOL: Billy Price, Pat Elflein, Wyatt Davis<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/pat-elfein-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Pat Elflein<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/billy-price-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Billy Price<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were both All-American guards converted to Rimington Award-winning centers. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/wyatt-davis-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Wyatt Davis<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the only active player on the All-Decade offense. Davis has also won All-American honors at guard but probably won\u2019t move to center with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/josh-myers-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Josh Myers<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> holding down the position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"BWgWfWqSS-BlSq0DnvdbYg\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/487906502\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'BWgWfWqSS-BlSq0DnvdbYg',sig:'xoXLCkj3EChH7pOrhLQYNYX8xHgEG_F0V5lk7tjMYmA=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'487906502',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were almost too many great Buckeyes to select for the Ohio State All-Decade team.
