Of the many former Ohio State Buckeyes in NFL free agency, four have received contracts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/schools\/ohio-state\/2019.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ohio State<\/a><\/strong> is known for pumping players into the NFL draft. In last years\u2019 draft, Ohio State had nine players picked, behind only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/schools\/alabama\/2019.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Alabama<\/strong><\/a> for most in the country.<\/p>\n<p>But free agency is where we find out how the drafted players fared. The second contract players earn is the one that gives them the most money and their best terms. Free agency tells everyone how well Ohio State actually develops players.<\/p>\n<p>Coincidentally, all of the Ohio State players with new contracts are all defensive backs. But after only one week of free agency, former Buckeyes are making a lot of money this offseason.<\/p>\n<h2>Tracking Former Ohio State Buckeyes in NFL Free Agency<\/h2>\n<h4>Free agents still available:<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/carlos-hyde-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Carlos Hyde<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/rod-smith-5.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Rod Smith<\/strong><\/a>,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/ted-ginn-jr-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Ginn Jr.<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/nick-vannett-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Nick Vannett<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/michael-bennett-5.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Michael Bennett<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/michael-bennett-5.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Darron Lee<\/strong><\/a>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/vonn-bell-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vonn Bell<\/a><\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/kurt-coleman-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kurt Coleman<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Malcolm Jenkins<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/teams\/nor\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The New Orleans Saints<\/strong><\/a> apparently have some sort of obligation to add Ohio State defensive backs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/malcolm-jenkins-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Malcolm Jenkins<\/strong><\/a> just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/story\/0ap3000001106827\/article\/saints-sign-s-malcolm-jenkins-to-4year-32m-deal\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agreed to a four-year, $32 million deal<\/a> that will bring him back to New Orleans.<\/p>\n<p>The Saints drafted him with the 14<sup>th <\/sup>overall pick in 2009. They let him walk in 2013, which head coach Sean Payton says \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/philadelphia\/eagles\/sean-payton-admits-letting-malcolm-jenkins-go-was-huge-mistake\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">certainly wasn\u2019t a smart decision.<\/a>\u201d\u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/teams\/phi\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Philadelphia Eagles<\/strong><\/a> released the day before free agency began, so the Saints quickly picked him back up.<\/p>\n<p>Though Jenkins played cornerback at Ohio State, he transitioned to safety when he played in the NFL. The Saints brought him in to replace another former Buckeye, <strong>Vonn Bell,<\/strong> who is currently still a free agent. Jenkins will also get the chance to play with former Buckeye turned Pro Bowler <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/marshon-lattimore-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Marshon Lattimore<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Eli Apple<\/h3>\n<p>After being let go by the Saints, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/eli-apple-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Eli Apple<\/strong><\/a> will get a chance as an inaugural member of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/teams\/rai\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Las Vegas Raiders<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Apple, who played cornerback at Ohio State from 2014-2015, was drafted by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/teams\/nyg\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Giants<\/a><\/strong>. The Saints traded for him in 2018, but let him walk this offseason. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2020\/03\/18\/eli-apple-signs-las-vegas-raiders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Raiders signed him<\/a>, though the details of that contract are not yet public.<\/p>\n<h3>Bradley Roby<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/teams\/htx\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Houston Texans<\/strong><\/a> gave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/bradley-roby-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bradley Roby<\/strong><\/a> a one-year \u201cprove it\u201d deal in 2019. He played well enough that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2020\/03\/15\/bradley-roby-re-signs-houston-texans\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">they gave him a new 3-year, $36 million contract<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Drafted by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/teams\/den\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denver Broncos<\/a><\/strong> in 2014, Roby was highly underrated on a team with two other elite cornerbacks. Roby helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50, but they chose not to bring him back in 2019. The Texans signed him to a one-year contract and then traded for former Buckeye <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/gareon-conley-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gareon Conley<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Now Roby will remain in Houston until at least 2022 when he will be 30 years old.<\/p>\n<h3>Nate Ebner<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Joe Judge<\/strong> left the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?search=New%20England%20Patriots&amp;pid=&amp;idx=teams\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New England Patriots<\/a><\/strong> as the special teams coordinator to become the Giants\u2019 head coach. He wanted to bring with him someone to help on special teams, so <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2020\/03\/19\/nate-ebner-signs-new-york-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he signed former Patriots and Buckeyes safety<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.giants.com\/news\/reports-giants-agree-to-terms-with-s-nate-ebner\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nate Ebner<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriots drafted Ebner in 2012 but never started a single game on defense. Instead, he has been a special teams wizard.
