{"id":28600,"date":"2020-02-24T09:00:58","date_gmt":"2020-02-24T14:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordoncollegefootball.com\/?p=28600"},"modified":"2025-09-13T15:28:50","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T19:28:50","slug":"oklahoma-sooners-numbers-game-11-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/2020\/02\/24\/oklahoma-sooners-numbers-game-11-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Oklahoma Sooners Numbers Game 11-20"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Oklahoma Sooners Numbers Game: 11-20<\/h2>\n<p>What is remembered most, a name or a number?\u00a0 At the University of Oklahoma, there have been so many great players wear a finite amount of numbers.\u00a0 Not everyone will agree with <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordoncollegefootball.com\/2020\/02\/17\/oklahoma-sooners-numbers-game-1-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this list<\/a>, there have just been too many great football players wear these numbers through the years.\u00a0 With this in mind, we present the greatest Sooners in numbers 11-20 of the 99 greatest Sooners of all time by number.<\/p>\n<h3>#11 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jack-mildren-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Mildren<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Interestingly enough we begin today\u2019s list with one of the all-time greats to ever wear the crimson and cream. Mildren was Oklahoma\u2019s first and arguably greatest wishbone quarterback.\u00a0 In 1971, Mildren&#8217;s senior year he led Oklahoma\u2019s vaunted offense.\u00a0 The Sooners offense set records that still stand almost 50 years later.\u00a0 Mildren was a class act on and off the field, and an all-time Sooner favorite to so many.<\/p>\n<h3>#12 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/landry-jones-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Landry Jones<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>In the eyes of many Sooner fans, Jones underachieved at Oklahoma.\u00a0 It has been said that he did the least with the most talent.\u00a0 Nevertheless, Jones&#8217; numbers speak for themselves.\u00a0 In his four years at Oklahoma Jones amassed 1,388 completions for 16,646 yards.\u00a0 Jones&#8217; passing yardage is number one in Sooner history.<\/p>\n<h3>#13 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/steve-sewell-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Sewell<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Sewell was a do-everything back for Oklahoma in the early \u201980s. He was a dependable all-purpose back. Sewell was a sure-handed receiver as well as a dependable running back.\u00a0 Sewell averaged 6.3 yards per carry and 17 yards per reception during his four-year career at Oklahoma.\u00a0 Sewell went on to play seven years in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, he appeared in three super bowls.<\/p>\n<h3>#14 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/sam-bradford-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Bradford<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Another fan favorite at Oklahoma was Bradford.\u00a0 The only real competition for Bradford at #14 was <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/josh-heupel-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Heupel<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 While Heupel did lead the Sooners to the 2000 national championship, Bradford won the 2008 Heisman Trophy.\u00a0 Bradford\u2019s career statistics at Oklahoma are far better than Heupel\u2019s.\u00a0 Bradford will live on as one of the all-time Sooner greats.<\/p>\n<h3>#15 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jimmy-harris-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Harris<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Although many fans aren\u2019t very familiar with Harris, he was a great quarterback during Oklahoma\u2019s record-setting 47 game win streak. \u00a0As the starting quarterback, Harris never lost a game during his three-year career at Oklahoma, going 25-0 while leading the Sooners to national championships in 1955 and 1956. Not solely an offensive star, \u00a0Harris was also a starter on defense at cornerback.<\/p>\n<h3>#16 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/coaches\/eddie-crowder-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eddie Crowder<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Crowder was another of the many All-America players at Oklahoma. \u00a0The lightning-quick Crowder gained All-American honors in 1952.\u00a0 Crowder started at quarterback and safety in 1951 and 1952.\u00a0 In 1951 Crowder completed 51 passes while throwing but one interception. \u00a0While playing a supporting role, Crowder was also a member of Oklahoma\u2019s first national championship team in 1950.<\/p>\n<h3>#17 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/andre-woolfolk-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andre Woolfolk<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The talent is a little thin at #17, but that shouldn\u2019t take away from an extremely talented player in Woolfolk.\u00a0 Woolfolk was a talented receiver his first three seasons at Oklahoma, amassing 59 receptions for 877 yards.\u00a0 Being the consummate team player, Woolfolk was asked to move to defense his senior year. Woolfolk moved to defensive back and excelled at that position as well.<\/p>\n<h3>#18 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jason-white-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason White<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>White has Oklahoma\u2019s second Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in 2003.\u00a0 White recovered from two major knee surgeries early in his career at Oklahoma. \u00a0Nonetheless, White went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 2003 and finished third in 2004. \u00a0During his stellar career, White passed for 7922 yards and 81 touchdowns in slightly over two years of playing time.<\/p>\n<h3>#19 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/zac-henderson-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zac Henderson<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Another in the long line of Sooner All-Americans.\u00a0 Henderson was a consensus All-American in 1977.\u00a0 In 1977 Henderson led the Big eight with seven interceptions.\u00a0 Henderson went on to play one year in the NFL with Philadelphia and was selected to the pro bowl.\u00a0 Henderson also played five years in the CFL with Hamilton and Toronto.<\/p>\n<h3>#20 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/billy-sims-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Billy Sims<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Concluding our greatest Sooners in numbers 11-20, we come to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/billy-sims-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Billy Sims<\/a><\/strong>. Sims was the second running back from Oklahoma to win the Heisman trophy. \u00a0There is no question Sims has been a colorful advocate of Oklahoma football and remains so currently.
