However 32 of those wins came in the last four years. While the coaching staff would say otherwise all wins aren&#8217;t created equally. That&#8217;s where we come in as over the course of two parts we rank the best victories. Let&#8217;s get started with Kentucky&#8217;s best wins of the decade part one.<\/p>\n<h4>Beating The &#8220;Ol&#8217; Ball Coach&#8221; &#8211; Number 10<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Kentucky 31- South Carolina 28- October 16, 2010<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>South Carolina<\/strong> rolled into Lexington riding a 10 game winning streak against the Wildcats. In the first half it looked much like Spinal Tap they were going to 11. The Gamecocks were firing on all cylinders as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/coaches\/joker-phillips-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joker Phillips<\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/coaches\/joker-phillips-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2019<\/a><\/strong> Cats went in trailing 28-10 at the half.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Kentucky defense came up big in the second half holding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/stephen-garcia-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephen<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/stephen-garcia-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Garcia<\/a> and the 10th ranked Gamecocks to only 103 yards. Touchdown passes from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/mike-hartline-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Hartline<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/larod-king-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">La&#8217;Rod King<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/chris-matthews-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Matthews<\/a> cut the lead to 28-23 early in the fourth quarter. From there neither team could find the end zone.<\/p>\n<p>However, with 1:15 remaining <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/randall-cobb-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Randall Cobb<\/a> caught a 24 yard pass from Hartline to put the Cats in the lead. He followed that up with a two point conversion to cement the win. For the game the Wildcat quarterback threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns. With the victory Kentucky snapped a 10 game losing streak to South Carolina. In addition, they beat a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/steve-spurrier-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Spurrier<\/a>\u00a0coached team for the first time in 18 tries.<\/p>\n<h4>An Improbable Win- Number 9<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Kentucky 15 Missouri 14- October 27, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Wildcats mustered little offense against the Tigers and found themselves trailing 14-3 at the half. However led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/josh-allen-6.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Allen<\/a>, the Kentucky defense held <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/drew-lock-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Lock<\/a> and the powerful <strong>Missouri<\/strong> offense to eight straight three and outs in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>With five minutes to go in the game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/lynn-bowden-jr-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lynn Bowden <\/a>took a punt 67 yards to the house. However the Cats missed the try for two leaving the margin at five. Another punt backed Kentucky up to their own 19 yard line. Quarterback <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/terry-wilson-3.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terry Wilson<\/a> calmly led the Cats down the field to the 10 yard line.<\/p>\n<p>On the game&#8217;s final play Wilson&#8217;s pass to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/ahmad-wagner-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ahmad Wagner<\/a> fell incomplete. However Missouri was whistled for pass interference giving the Cats one more play. Wilson hit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/cj-conrad-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">C.J. Conrad<\/a> for the score on the extra play giving Kentucky an improbable win. Well question no more as this game has made the list.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these games involve a huge Kentucky comeback and this one is no different. Following a 26 yard run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=mike-davis-9,mike-davis-4,mike-davis-2,mike-davis-1&amp;search=Mike+Davis&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Davis<\/a> the Wildcats trailed 38-24 early in the fourth quarter. However Carolina would not score again as the Cats ran off 21 straight points.<\/p>\n<p>Two touchdown runs by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jojo-kemp-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jojo Kemp<\/a> tied the game at 38 with a little over two minutes remaining. On the ensuing possession\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/alvin-dupree-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bud Dupree<\/a> picked off a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/dylan-thompson-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dylan Thompson<\/a> pass running it back six yards to give the Cats the lead. Carolina had one last chance but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/ashley-lowery-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ashley Lowery<\/a> picked off Thompson to seal the win.<\/p>\n<p>The win was the first major win at Kentucky for Stoops and his first win over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/steve-spurrier-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Spurrier<\/a>. Kentucky would go on to win five in a row against the Gamecocks.<\/p>\n<h4>A Historic Performance- Number 7<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Kentucky 45 Louisville 13- November 30th, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the last two years the Wildcats have outscored the Cardinals by a 101-23 margin. As a result you could put either one of the wins on this list. However due to the historic nature of the win we&#8217;re going <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordoncollegefootball.com\/2019\/12\/01\/kentucky-blows-out-louisville-45-13\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">with last season.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In his final home game at Kentucky Bowden saved the best for last. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordoncollegefootball.com\/2019\/12\/11\/lynn-bowden-wins-paul-hornung-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Hornung Award winner <\/a> rushed 22 times for 284 yards and four touchdowns as the Cats retained the Governor&#8217;s Cup for a second straight year. The 284 yards are the most ever by a quarterback in Southeastern Conference history. Furthermore he was only 15 yards off the school record of 299 set by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/moe-williams-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moe Williams\u00a0<\/a>against\u00a0<strong>South Carolina<\/strong>\u00a0in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>One week after Kentucky set a school record with 462 yards rushing they topped that with 517 against <strong>Louisville.<\/strong> It\u2019s the third straight game going over 400 yards for the Kentucky offense. It was the most by any FBS school this season. In addition the Cats broke their single season rushing record of 3,124 set back in 1974.<\/p>\n<p>It was a rough introduction the rivalry game for Louisville coach <strong>Scott Satterfield.<\/strong> Not only did his team get blown out but he appeared to take offense with the &#8220;L&#8217;s Down.&#8221;\u00a0Following the game he could be seen talking to Stoops about the gesture. Kentucky\u2019s head man had this response afterwards.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Asked about a postgame chat with Scott Satterfield that seemed to include a mention of the \u201cL\u2019s down\u201d gesture, Mark Stoops said: \u201cI don\u2019t want to elaborate. . . . I don\u2019t know if an L\u2019s down is going to offend them. As a result there were rumblings about\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/mark-stoops-2.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Stoops<\/a>\u2018 job security. The game was a tight back and forth affair and the Cats took a 34-24 lead early in the fourth quarter. However the Bulldogs battled back and took a 38-37 lead with just over a minute to go.<\/p>\n<p>Quarterback\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/stephen-johnson-8.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephen Johnson<\/a>\u00a0marched the Cats down the field.\u00a0With nine seconds remaining quarterback he hit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jeff-badet-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Badet<\/a>\u00a0with an 18 yard pass down to the Mississippi State 33 yard line. From there\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/austin-macginnis-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Austin Macginnis<\/a> nailed a 51 yard field goal giving the Cats an improbable victory.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did the win possibly save Stoops\u2019 job but it was the first win ever for Kentucky over a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/dan-mullen-2.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dan Mullen<\/a>\u00a0coached team.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for checking out the first half of Kentucky&#8217;s greatest wins of the decade here at <strong>Last<\/strong> <strong>Word On College Football<\/strong>.
