It’s a tradition like no other in the SEC. The week before “Rivalry Saturday” many teams\u00a0 step out of conference to play an FCS school. The Wildcats are no different as they host Tennessee- Martin.<\/strong> However they have a lot to play for as Kentucky goes for bowl eligibility. First let’s look at the main reason why the Cats are closing in on a bowl\u00a0Lynn Bowden.<\/a><\/p>\n They say “necessity is the mother of invention.” That’s certainly been the case for\u00a0Mark Stoops <\/a>in 2019. Fresh off a 10 win season\u00a0Terry Wilson <\/a>looked ready to make even bigger strides in season two. However in the second game of the season he was lost for the year due to a\u00a0 torn patellar tendon.\u00a0<\/a>In the next game against Florida\u00a0Sawyer Smith <\/a>was also injured. He gutted through the next two contests before Stoops went to unusual measures.<\/p>\n With no other quarterback on the team having any game experience Stoops and offensive coordinator Eddie Gran<\/strong> looked to their top play maker in Bowden. The former high school quarterback and runner-up for Mr. Football in Ohio not only accepted the challenge but has thrived.<\/p>\n During the five games he’s started the Cats are a totally one dimensional team. However that one dimension has been pretty fun to watch. So far Bowden ranks seventh in the SEC with 822 yards rushing averaging almost seven yards per rush. In addition he’s found the end zone five times. scored five touchdowns. Furthermore even though he hasn’t caught a pass in five games he still leads the club in receptions with 30, 11 more than Josh Ali. <\/a><\/p>\n His best game came in the\u00a0win over Missouri<\/a> with 204 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He’s cracked the century mark in every game except Georgia<\/strong> where he rushed for 99. The junior’s season brings back memories of another dual threat player in\u00a0Randall Cobb<\/a> a decade ago.
