I hypothesized that losses to <strong>Washington<\/strong>, <strong>Notre Dame<\/strong>, and <strong>Oregon<\/strong> were possible, and that the Cardinal could only withstand one loss to an undefeated, nationally respected team to stay in CFP contention. In a nut shell, because they play in the PAC-12 it would \u201ctake a season of near perfection for Stanford to get there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Heading into Week 7, with a 3-2 record, perfection is long gone. If the drubbing by Washington landed Stanford in the ICU, being blown out by <strong>Washington State<\/strong> was the final death blow, or their <em>Cougar de gr\u00e2ce<\/em>. The CFP is no longer an option for Stanford football this year.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/kdP8uhXVuuByw\" width=\"480\" height=\"447\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/kdP8uhXVuuByw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via GIPHY<br \/>\n<\/a><em>It\u2019s always just out of reach<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s masochistically relive the crap-tastic Washington State game using my favorite communication tool for emotionally stunted sports people: GIFs.<\/p>\n<h3>First Half<\/h3>\n<p>Stanford started the game on offense. And promptly\u00a0went\u00a0three and out.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/aHnOjSIRfAz9m\" width=\"480\" height=\"330\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/aHnOjSIRfAz9m\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via GIPHY<br \/>\n<\/a><em>Here we go again.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But 39 seconds later, Washington State gave the ball back to Stanford\u00a0courtesy of a\u00a0<strong>Dallas Lloyd<\/strong>\u00a0pick.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/fkD36jhiqzJ9m\" width=\"480\" height=\"249\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/reaction-fkD36jhiqzJ9m\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following that, Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0offense gained a total of three yards on the next three plays, and kicker <strong>Conrad Ukropina<\/strong>\u00a0clanked the ball off\u00a0the upright.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3oz8xvk1lTDM6h9GjS\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/mlb-baseball-alds-3oz8xvk1lTDM6h9GjS\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via GIPHY<br \/>\n<\/a><em>Football is a<\/em><em>n emotional roller coaster. So is baseball, apparently.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It only got worse for Stanford from that point. Offensive plays for the remainder of the half resulted in\u00a0a punt, field goal, fumble, and another missed field goal. The offense was atrocious.\u00a0The new school offensive line looked lost and\u00a0over-matched, wide receivers couldn&#8217;t get open, and quarterback <strong>Ryan Burns<\/strong>\u00a0was struggling.<\/p>\n<p>A message to the former\u00a0offensive linemen, <strong>Josh Garnett, Kyle Murphy <\/strong>and<strong> Graham Shuler<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3o6QLcNZgGKvFBluKs\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/i-miss-you-3o6QLcNZgGKvFBluKs\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via GIPHY<br \/>\n<\/a><em>Come back, Tunnel Workers Union.
