If the opening weekend of college football was any indication as to how the rest of the season will unfold, we’re in for a wild ride. We saw some incredible performances by a pair of transfer quarterbacks. And, we also saw some of the best running backs going crazy on the ground. Now, we only have a small sample size. But, that’s sufficient as we unveil our week one 2019 Heisman rankings.<\/p>\n

Jalen Hurts<\/strong><\/a>, Tua Tagovailoa<\/a><\/strong>, and Justin Fields<\/a><\/strong> all had impressive debuts against overmatched opponents. Now, Hurts and Tagovailoa will do little to change their position this week. Comparatively, Travis Etienne<\/a><\/strong> and Jonathan Taylor<\/a><\/strong> proved they are without a doubt the best two running backs in college football. Now, let’s see where the chips fall in our week one 2019 Heisman rankings.<\/p>\n

1. Tua Tagovailoa<\/a><\/h2>\n

After a lazy first half, Tagovailoa and Alabama turned it on in the second half to cruise to a 42-3 win over Duke. Tagovailoa nearly had more touchdowns (4) than incompletions (5) in the win. He will be licking his chops to face an Aggies defense that gave up over 400 yards through the air against Washington State last weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s hard to imagine a much better start to the season for Hurts. He looked to be in total control of Lincoln Riley’s attack. The only blemish in an otherwise perfect start for Hurts was one fumble. Expect Hurts to name his statline this week against FCS South Dakota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawrence dropped dramatically to number four after leading our preseason rankings<\/a>. To put it in perspective, Lawrence threw half as many interceptions against Georgia Tech as he did all of 2018. However, Lawrence, like his teammate has the stage to change all of that. One must believe that Lawrence has too much talent around him to struggle for much longer.<\/div>\n

5. Jonathan Taylor<\/a><\/h1>\n

Wisconsin was one of the more impressive teams in week one as they dismantled South Florida 49-0. Taylor was a huge part of that dominating performance as he scored four times. Most impressive was that Taylor did it twice as a receiver out of the backfield. Taylor should continue his hot start against Central Michigan this weekend.<\/p>\n
