Even against seemingly over-matched competition, the Cats struggle to put teams away. However, that was not the case in taking back the Governor’s Cup from the Cards, winning 56-10. Here now are four takeaways from Kentucky’s blowout of Louisville.

Terry Wilson Played His Best Game

The redshirt sophomore has gotten better as the season has gone along. Against the Cardinals, he had his best performance of 2018. For the game, Wilson accounted for 340 yards of total offense 261 through the air and 79 on the ground. In addition to rushing for a score, “Touchdown Terry” threw for three more touchdowns, two of which went to sophomore LynnBowden.

The Offense Broke Out In A Big Way

Before the Middle Tennessee game last week, Kentucky’s offense had scored only seven touchdowns since September 29th. However, against one of the worst defenses in football, the Cats torched the Cardinal defense. In all, Kentucky rolled up 604 yards of total offense and six different Wildcats found the end zone.

Benny Snell inched closer to the Kentucky all-time rushing mark with 100 yards. In addition, Snell found the end zone twice giving him 46 for his career. For the game, the Cats rushed for 343 yards, the most in a game this season beating the 303 against Florida. As we continue with four takeaways from Kentucky’s blowout of Louisville, let’s look at what this team has accomplished.

Making More History

Throughout the 2018 season, Mark Stoops’ team has been rewriting the Kentucky football history books. With the win against Louisville, the Cats finish the regular season 9-3. The nine wins are the most since the 1977 team went 10-1.

The Wildcats’ victory gives the school back the all-time lead in the series at 16-15. In addition, the 46-point margin is the largest since the rivalry was renewed in 1994. A 68-34 win in 1998 had been the biggest blowout for Kentucky, while a 73-0 dismantling in 1922 ranks as Kentucky’s largest win overall.

The #GovernorsCup Champions! #BBN pic.twitter.com/0s5vdRnWOr

— Jonathan Dunn (@Jonathan__Dunn) November 25, 2018

A January Bowl Game Awaits

As a result of the win, Kentucky is all but assured its first New Year’s Day Bowl since 1999. Current bowl projections have the Wildcats playing in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
