Four-star safety Leon O’Neal Jr.<\/a>, who decommitted<\/a> in December, recommitted to the Aggies on Monday, February 5. He’s the third safety in Texas A&M’s 2018 recruiting class joining Brian Johnson<\/a> and Jordan Moore<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ranked as the nation’s No. 8<\/a> safety by 247Sports, O’Neal Jr. chose<\/a> the Aggies over Clemson and Oklahoma.<\/p>\n “It was something that if you got a vision, you gotta take that vision,” O’Neal Jr. told Rivals.com<\/a>. “This is our state, this is also about my name, who I am – I come from this area and this team needs us more than ever.”<\/p>\n The Cypress, Texas native recorded 86 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in his 2016 junior campaign at Cypress Springs High School. Last year as a senior, he forced five fumbles and scored two touchdowns.<\/p>\n “We watched him his freshman season and noticed his energy, enthusiasm and passion for the game,” Cypress Springs head coach Rick Cobia said to Hookem.com<\/a>. “I knew if he developed into muscle we’d have a good football player. It has worked out well for him.”<\/p>\n Following the season, he was named a U.S. Army All-American<\/a>.<\/p>\n O’Neal Jr. becomes Texas A&M’s seventh four-star recruit in the class<\/a> and their second at safety.<\/p>\n With Armani Watts<\/a> off to the NFL, the eighth-best<\/a> player in the state of Texas has an opportunity to make an instant impact.<\/p>\n He’ll compete with junior Antonio Howard<\/a> and rising sophomores Keldrick Carper<\/a> and Derrick Tucker<\/a>, along with the incoming Johnson and Moore, in the fall for playing time.<\/p>\n With the high expectations in College Station, O’Neal Jr. is the type of player Texas A&M can rely on to meet its standards.<\/p>\nLeon O’Neal Jr.<\/h1>\n
