Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators coaching staff have signed one of their top commits. Four-star outside linebacker Derek Wingo has signed his NLI to the University of Florida. Important to realize, Mullen loves Wingo’s skill set as he’s a perfect fit and can really make a huge impact on the Gators defense in the future. In fact, Wingo is the only linebacker Florida will sign in their 2020 recruiting class.
Who is Derek Wingo?
Wingo is a four-star outside linebacker out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Florida outside linebacker commit is one of the top linebackers in the country. However, Florida had to flip him from the Penn State Nittany Lions. Comparatively, Wingo signed with Florida over Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, and Wisconsin.
On Rivals, Wingo is the 19th ranked recruit and the third-ranked inside linebacker in the country. On the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Wingo is the 81st ranked recruit and the seventh-ranked outside linebacker in the country. The Gators have added an elite outside linebacker who could really make an impact in the future. Being an early signee, Hopper is currently locked in with the Florida Gators 2020 recruiting class. Derek Wingo will also play in the All-American Bowl game.
