Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators coaching staff have signed one of their top defensive commits. Three-star safety and Florida commit Trent Whittemore has signed his NLI to the University of Florida. This is a nice signing for Florida as he was committed to Florida since the Jim McElwain era. Mullen likes Whittemore’s skill set as he’s a perfect fit and can really make a huge impact on the Florida Gators defense in the future. This is the third safety Mullen has signed in his first two recruiting classes at the University of Florida. Trent Whittemore is the only safety in the Florida Gators 2019 recruiting class.
Who is Trent Whittemore?
Trent Whittemore is a three-star safety out of F. W. Buchholz High School in Gainesville, Florida. The Florida cornerback commit is one of the top defensive recruit in the state of Florida. He was a tough get for the Gators as Whittemore was committed for over a year. Whittemore really took off in recruiting once he committed to Florida during his junior year. Whittemore signed with Florida over Army, Duke, Georgia Tech, Southern Miss, Troy, USF and Yale.
On the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Whittemore is the 766th ranked recruit and the 65th ranked safety in the country. On ESPN, Whittemore is the 61st ranked recruit in Florida and the 33rd ranked safety in the country. The Gators have added a solid safety who could really make an impact in the future. Being an early signee, Whittemore is locked in the Florida Gators 2019 recruiting class. There is a good chance Whittemore might start his collegiate career as a wide receiver instead of safety.
