2022 Week Three Heisman Rankings

Last Word on College Football Heisman Rankings

The last week of the regular season is upon us. While us mere mortals will face the constant battle of leftovers versus naps, this week proves as one last week for a select few to prove themselves. For folks like Lamar Jackson, Rashaad Penny and Saquon Barkley this will be their final game before the award is determined. Can they make enough of a case to leapfrog those players which will have a championship game? How will those performances affect our 2017 Heisman rankings in the coming weeks?

Comparatively, Baker Mayfield, Bryce Love and Jonathan Taylor will all, most likely, have an extra game during championship week to bolster their case. Mayfield would likely face TCU again in a rematch game. Love could potentially have the opportunity to face USC in a game in which the Trojans won relatively easy in September. Finally, Taylor will likely help shape the College Football Playoff as well as possibly the Heisman with a matchup against Ohio State. For now, let’s see how this week’s rankings shape up.

Ranking Player Position Team Points
1 Baker Mayfield QB   75
2 Bryce Love RB   57
3 Lamar Jackson QB   26
4 Saquon Barkley RB   23
5 Rashaad Penny RB   22
6 Khalil Tate QB   8
7 Kerryon Johnson RB   7
8 Jonathan Taylor RB   4
9 Josh Adams RB   1

Top Five Candidates

1. Baker Mayfield

QB | Oklahoma                      Next Game: 11/25 vs West Virginia

Unfortunately, Mayfield will be noted for his performance off the field versus his on the field performance. Be that as it may, he still had a solid outing against Kansas. He now has two consecutive games without a turnover. Some think his sideline behavior could cost him in the rankings, but he is still a unanimous number one for us.

2. Bryce Love

RB | Stanford                      Next Game: 11/25 vs Notre Dame

Love can’t seem to catch a break over the last part of the year. He re-injured his ankle in the fourth quarter but still managed to break the century mark. Love has a big match-up this week as the Cardinal play host to the Fighting Irish.

3. Lamar Jackson

QB | Louisville                      Next Game: 11/25 At Kentucky

It’s not often that you can say that you have two players in the same year that are the best ever to play the position at their respective school. But, that’s what we also have here with Lamar Jackson. On Saturday, he became the career leader in all-purpose yards at Louisville.

4. Saquon Barkley

RB | Penn State                       Next Game: 11/25 at Maryland

Nebraska’s defense sure was a sight for sore eyes for Barkley. On Saturday against the Cornhuskers, he had over 200 all-purpose yards as Penn State had an offensive burst. Barkley will look to end the regular season with a favorable match-up against Maryland.

5. Rashaad Penny

RB | San Diego State               Next Game: 11/24 vs New Mexico

Penny has been in and out of our top five this season. He had another outstanding game last week against Nevada. He is still the rushing leader in the country and barring injury should pass the 2,000-yard mark this weekend against New Mexico.
