The biggest game of the year for Canadian football fans is here. The 107th Grey Cup will kick-off in Calgary Sunday, November 24th at 6:00 PM EST. The juggernaut Hamilton Tiger-Cats coming off a 10-0 record at home and a 15-3 record during the regular season meet the road-tested Winnipeg Blue Bombers who battled through two very difficult environments to appear in the Grey Cup for the first time since 2011.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will try to make history in being the first third-seed team to win the Grey Cup since the 2005 Edmonton Eskimos. Finally, both teams will be looking to end their respective longest-tenured Grey Cup droughts. Hamilton has not won the big game since 1999, whereas Winnipeg has not won since 1990. Without further ado, we present the Last Word on Canadian Football’s Grey Cup picks, which we can only hope go better than our playoff predictions.

Even as a Riders fan, I can’t help but want to get behind the Zach Collaros redemption story. However, it’s really hard to see how Winnipeg will slow down the Tiger-cats offence. Dane Evans has been playing lights out and is supplemented by stellar play from Hamilton’s defensive line. The Cinderella run for Winnipeg ends here.

In what should be a tightly contested game on Sunday, both defences will likely be the story for most of this Grey Cup. However, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats special teams led by returner Frankie Williams will fill in the rest of the storyline and ultimately the Ti-Cats will secure their first championship in 20 years.

On paper, Hamilton is the better team. Dane Evans has great chemistry with his receivers and the defence is nasty. I would not be surprised either way in this one, but travelling to Calgary for the game gives the Bombers a slight edge and I am feeling an upset.
