We have a full four-game slate on deck for Week 18 of the CFL. At first glance, some of the best fantasy producers this season are missing from the slate courtesy of a Hamilton Tiger-Cats bye week. A slate without that kind of star power helps to spread ownership out a bit which could mean this is a good week to play tournaments. And add C.J. Gable to that blacklist as he is out tomorrow. That said, there are still CFL Fantasy options with value.
DraftKings = $9,000/$50,000
TSN = $8,353/$40,000
James Franklin’s hold on the starting job was flimsy at best, and Bethel-Thompson will be back under centre for the Argonauts this week. He will see a Redblacks defence that is suspect through the air. Given the weak defences of both teams, expect a solid amount of points on the board. It also helps that Bethel-Thompson already tuned up this team once already this season. Back in Wek 13, he posted a whopping 411 passing yards, and almost broke the 30 point threshold. You can also make a case for Chris Streveler this week, but the preferred option is the Argos’ signal-caller.
DraftKings = $5,300/$50,000
Shaq Cooper is one of two value running backs that will find themselves in sizable roles this weekend. As mentioned above, C.J. Gable will be missing this game for the Eskimos. When Cooper filled in for Gable earlier this season, he didn’t miss a beat. He was featured heavily in both the running and passing game totalling 22 carries for 128 yards and five catches for 48 yards. His matchup against B.C. should only help his already bright fantasy outlook.
Mossis Madu will be out for the Redblacks game tonight leaving a mix of Greg Morris and Brandon Gillanders to do the heavy lifting. As of now, Gillanders is listed as the starter. If you are having a pause in case there is a split of work, Gillanders is the smarter play. He is bottom of the barrel cheap and gets a nice matchup to go along with it. Even if he doesn’t do too much, his salary still leaves plenty of room for other CFL Fantasy players.
DraftKings = $10,200/$50,000
TSN = $10,890/$40,000
Bryan Burnham has been on a heater over the past five weeks. He is having an insane season, reaching the 1,300-yard mark and scoring nine touchdowns. This week he will have a tougher test against Edmonton’s defence. This slate is interesting in that there’s an opportunity to pay up for either one of Harris or Burnham with savings at running back. You can even swing rostering both Harris and Burnham if you dig for a bargain receiver.
DraftKings = $4,200/$50,000
TSN = $3,200/$40,000
Both defences in this game are suspect, but the Argonauts may be able to provide some CFL Fantasy salary relief. Will Arndt is starting at quarterback for the Redblacks and has seen very limited in-game reps. He’ll be on the road to play in a game where his team will most likely be behind. It is always smart to target defences who find themselves facing a pass-happy team, especially against an inexperienced quarterback.
