Nik’s Picks – Week 9 CFL Predictions

Last week’s Nik’s Picks — trending upwards!

Thursday

Calgary Stampeders @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers:
The Bombers are looking to avoid losing to Dane Evans, McLeod Bethel-Thompson and Nick Arbuckle in consecutive weeks. Without Don Jackson or Ka’Deem Carey, Calgary’s going to be pass heavy, and the Bombers will rush Arbuckle. Winnipeg needs to wake up before they lose first in the West and at 3-0 at home in 2019, it’s tough to go against them. Calgary with Bo Levi maybe, but not with Arbuckle. There hasn’t been more than 24 points in the first half of Calgary-Winnipeg game since 2015. Bombers by five after a slow start.
Calgary 21 Winnipeg 26
Best bet: First half under 24.5

Friday

Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Montreal Alouettes:
Injuries on both sides change the complexion of this match with Micah Johnson, Shaq Evans, Zack Evans, Vernon Adams Jr. and William Stanback all sitting out. While I’m not worried about Saskatchewan’s offence, their defensive front could have issues containing veteran Jeremiah Johnson who should be heavily relied on. If the Als are going to win, they need to take hold up their +10 turnover ratio and build off the Riders’ -8. But, the Riders are clicking on all three phases and are 6-3 in their last nine road games. Riders by four.
Saskatchewan 24 Montreal 20
Best bet: Under 50.5

Ottawa Redblacks @ Edmonton Eskimos:
Trevor Harris’ first meeting with his old team couldn’t come at a better team as it appears Greg Ellingson, Anthony Orange and Don Unamba are all back. In terms of knowledge, Corey Tindal’s the lone secondary starter who was a Redblack last year; it’s advantage Harris and his offensive line who’s given up two sacks in 2019. On defence Edmonton’s balling. It’s hard to imagine Dom Davis moving the ball against the Esks’ ferocious defence. Ottawa’s also 3-7 ATS in their last 10 at Edmonton. Eskimos dominate and win by 22.
Ottawa 14 Edmonton 36
Best bet: EDM -8.5

Saturday

B.C. Lions @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats:
B.C. is a wild-card coming off a bye. Their underachieving from top to bottom, yes even their offensive line, and a bye could kickstart a turnaround. It’s just unfortunate they’re in Hamilton in Week 9. The Ti-Cats are 4-0 at home against teams with a combined record of 17-10. Dane Evans looked comfortable in Regina while without Brandon Banks and a true running back. Likely with Banks and bruiser Cam Marshall, Evans will only get better against a sloppy Lions defence. Don’t overthink it, the Lions have it tough. Tabbies by 24.
B.C. 13 Hamilton 37
Best bet: HAM -10.5
