Week 8 CFL Fantasy Picks: DraftKings and TSN

The injury bug has laid waste to a good portion of some of the league’s best players, most recently Hamilton signal-caller Jeremiah Masoli. Masoli is out for the remainder of this season with a torn ACL. Brandon Banks was also placed on the one-game injured list for Hamilton’s game this week leaving this slate without a little less star power than usual. Unfortunately, both injuries come to the detriment of the Tiger-Cats. Let’s take a look at who else we will be looking towards this week in CFL Fantasy.

Vernon Adams Jr.

DraftKings = $10,000/$50,000
TSN = $7,359/$40,000

Vernon Adams Jr. has enjoyed some nice success as Montreal’s quarterback this season. He’s led the Alouettes to a couple of impressive wins over both Hamilton and Edmonton and will look to keep the train rolling against a middling Redblacks team. Usually, I am not the biggest fan of paying up at quarterback, but Adams Jr. has a solid floor given his added rushing ability. I fully expect the Als to cruise here with Adams Jr. being a big reason why.

Other Notes

I actually don’t hate the idea of punting quarterback totally this week. Both Johnathan Jennings and Dane Evans are bargain barrel options that could provide nice value. You can basically do whatever you want with the rest of your roster if you decide to roll the dice and use one of these guys as your quarterback.

William Stanback

DraftKings = $8,700/$50,000
TSN = $8,879/$40,000

Stanback has had an awesome season thus far for the Alouettes. From a fantasy perspective, he has yet to post a game below double-digit points this season. He should see a nice amount of work in a game where the Alouettes should be ahead in the majority of the time. Starting your rosters with both Adams Jr. and Stanback is an interesting approach to try and grab hold of all the potential offensive touchdowns the Alouettes could score.

Other Notes

As the time of writing this article, C.J. Gable is questionable for Edmonton’s game. If he ends up missing again, you have no other choice than to play Shaq Cooper. Cooper was a stat machine in Gable’s stead, racking up 22 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown, and adding 5 catches for 48 yards in the passing game. The matchup is a little worrisome but that workload at that price is too affordable to pass up.

Bralon Addison

DraftKings = $8,400/$50,000
TSN = $6,087/$40,000

Luke Tasker

DraftKings = $7,600/$50,000
TSN = $7,820/$40,000

Along with Jeremiah Masoli, Brandon Banks is scheduled to miss this game for the Tiger-Cats. Banks’ massive target share will, in turn, be dispersed throughout the rest of the Hamilton receivers. The two guys I believe stand to benefit most are Bralon Addison and Luke Tasker. While Tasker hasn’t really popped at any time this year, Addison has shown the ability to put up points. While the targets will definitely be there, one would have to wonder what the quality of them will be like. With Dane Evans now at the helm, it may take some time to develop even some of the chemistry Masoli had with this crew.

Other Notes

Speaking of quality of targets, Derel Walker saw another 11 throws go his way in last week’s game against Edmonton. He was only able to bring in 5 though in a tough defensive matchup. This week does not necessarily get any easier as they go up against Winnipeg. I still think the volume is too much to ignore. Walker was 1 or 2 catches shy of hitting that 100-yard bonus as well. Bethel-Thompson and Walker have clearly developed a connection and there is no reason they shouldn’t be able to hit value in garbage time if this game gets out of hand.

Montreal Alouettes

Draftkings = $5,000/$50,000
TSN = $3,200/$40,000

As you can tell, I really like the Alouettes this week in both phases of the game. They are priced in the middle of the pack on DraftKings, but are the cheapest defense on TSN making them close to a must-play. The savings combined with their matchup is too enticing to overlook for CFL Fantasy.

That’s all I have for today. Good luck in Week 8 CFL Fantasy!
