Nik’s Picks – Week 7 CFL Predictions
Last week’s Nik’s Picks — …. never again.
Thursday
Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Toronto Argonauts:
When the Bombers beat Toronto by 27 in Week 5 it showed the gap between the top team in the CFL and the bottom team. This gap still exists. The Argos quarterback situation is a disaster, while Winnipeg is adding Chris Matthews back to their lineup. Recently Winnipeg has fared well versus Toronto, covering in seven of their last 10 against the Argos. Points should come easy for Winnipeg, while the Argos may add some points late. The over’s hit in eight of the last 10 Winnipeg-Toronto meetings, including five in a row. Bombers by 25.
Winnipeg 41 Toronto 16
Best bet: WPG -14.5
Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Saskatchewan Roughriders:
Without Jeremiah Masoli and Brandon Banks, a win in Regina is going to be a tough feat for Hamilton. Saskatchewan’s establishing their strengths — stout overall defence and an exhausting run game — and they are now in a position to go above .500 for the first time this year. With two back up quarterbacks and two above-average defences, points will be hard to come by. The under’s hit in seven of the last 10 Tabbies-Riders games, but what stands out is Saskatchewan winning 17 of their last 19 versus Hamilton. Riders by five.
Hamilton 18 Saskatchewan 23
Best bet: Under 50.5
Friday
Ottawa Redblacks @ Montreal Alouettes:
My eyes are on this Week 8 matchup for an upset. Dom Davis is back for the Redblacks, giving their offence life. More importantly, John Crockett has established some stability on Ottawa’s offence. Eight of their last 10 meetings between have gone under with an average score of 23-19 Redblacks. While the Als are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10, they are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games versus Ottawa. The Redblacks are also 16-7 ATS in the last 23 road games. Redblacks snap their four-game losing streak and win by two.
Ottawa 25 Montreal 23
Best bet: OTT +7.5
Saturday
Edmonton Eskimos @ Calgary Stampeders:
2019’s first battle of Alberta features neither Mike Reilly or Bo Levi Mitchell. The Eskimos are averaging near than 70 yards less per game than any CFL defence, something that’s taken some eyes off Trevor Harris throwing two majors in his last four games. Honestly, Calgary’s tough to get a feel on. They should be blowing out their weaker competition, but are instead barely holding on. Despite the Eskimos losing eight of their last nine in Calgary, it’s hard to see the Stamps finding the end zone. Edmonton steals one, they win by eight.
Edmonton 27 Calgary 19
