CFL Week 5 Fantasy Picks: Draftkings and TSN

CFL Week 5 Fantasy

The CFL season feels like it is flying by as we are already into Week 5. There has been a lot of exciting football played already with hopes for more on the horizon. Even though some teams have clearly established themselves such as Edmonton and Winnipeg, we saw one of the stronger teams in the league — the Hamilton Tiger-Cats — get beat by the Montreal Allouettes. You know, as they say, any given Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and sometimes Monday. Without further ado, let’s get into the slate.

Draftkings = $8,800/$50,000
TSN = $6,073/$40,000

Davis and the Redblacks are coming off of a tough loss at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. While the Blue Bombers have established themselves as one of the better defensive units in the league, Davis will get to face off against the polar opposite in week five in the Montreal Alouettes.

To put it simply, the Alouettes have gotten SHREDDED through the air so far this season. They haven’t held a single passer to less than 375 yards, and have surrendered over 400 passing yards in two of their first three games. I expect Davis to take full advantage of the matchup at hand and put up a solid fantasy outing in week five. Davis can also add a few extra points on the ground which is never a bad thing.

Andrew Harris

Draftkings = $9,200/$50,000
TSN = $9,427/$40,000

Harris has had a solid start to the year through the Blue Bombers’ first three games. Although he hasn’t been completely smashing the box score as we have become accustomed to seeing, he has still remained heavily involved in Winnipeg’s attack. Harris should be able to feast this week on an Argonauts defence that has been bleeding yards to opposing backfields.

So far this season they have allowed an average of 141 rushing yards per game. It is also worth noting that they have allowed close to four receptions per game to opposing ball carriers. Harris is the highest priced running back on both sites, but you may want to think twice before looking for cheaper options.

Anthony Coombs

Draftkings = $4,200/$50,000
TSN = $3,890/$40,000

Speaking of cheap CFL running back options (Draftkings only) in Week 5, Anthony Coombs looks like he will be in charge of carrying the rock for the Tiger-Cats on Saturday. He was used in relief of Sean Thomas-Erlington last week who left the game early with a knee injury. He served admirably in his expanded role, doing damage on both the ground and in the receiving game.

His price in relation to the potential volume he will see is nowhere near adjusted to where it needs to be. Take advantage of the discount while it lasts, as Coombs could be doing the heavy lifting for a while with Thomas-Erlington on the shelf.

R.J. Harris

Draftkings = $6,700/$50,000
TSN = $6,453/$40,000

R.J. Harris has garnered a large portion of the Redblacks’ targets through their first three games. He and Dominique Rhymes are tied for the team lead in targets with 26 a piece. At the moment, I am leaning towards rostering Harris to pair with Davis at quarterback. While Rhymes does have that outburst game to his name from back in week two, he has not been able to do much with his targets outside of that.

Harris, on the other hand, has been a bit more consistent. I think both are really solid options this week, but at the time of writing this article, I am leaning Harris. I also like the idea of running it back with B.J. Cunningham.

Davaris Daniels looks like he will, in fact, make his season debut this week as a member of the Edmonton Eskimos. Out of all the situations this week, I am monitoring this one the closest. I think we can all agree that the Eskimos’ trio of Ellingson, Stafford and Collins Jr. had all been in a groove with Trevor Harris.

Now with Daniels back in the mix, I am curious to see who gets bumped back in the rotation or if anyone gets bumped back at all, as each of the three guys mentioned above has played well above average this season. My guess is it will be one of either Stafford or Collins Jr., but we won’t know for sure until Daniels is a full go, as I expect them to ease him back into action.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Draftkings = $4,400/$50,000
TSN = $6,251/$40,000

The Blue Bombers seem like a no brainer pick this week as they will face up against the Toronto Argonauts. One of the worst units in the league defensively was even able to find its footing against this inefficient and ineffective Argonauts squad. I have zero problems with the Harris/Blue Bombers stack in week five.

Well, everyone, that’s going to do it for this edition of the CFL positional breakdown for Week 5. Hope my two cents turns into some dollars for you!
