Reactions to Djokovic's default?

Right move? Wrong move? Necessary move but bad rule? Good rule? What do you all think?

As a total outsider, it seemed like an overreaction.  From the footage I've seen it was a genuine accident on his part so eliminating him from the tournament just seems to be a bit too harsh.

You can't kick the best player in the world out for an unintentional move. The first one he hit was far worse.

If it hit her leg, he doesn't default.

It's based on the reaction.

Not a Djokovic guy, but that was excessive. Think about what Serena has done all these years

Given the rules, he had to go, but I think the rule itself is too harsh.

The only option under the current rules, but would like to see the rules change to consider intent, and allow officials to view replays.

I didn't see it happen in real time, but was just as shocked when I saw the result. Losing the best player in the world, the surefire favorite, on something that seems so trivial feels crazy. It was an accident and you'd like to think an accidental hit like that would be judged differently than had he done it on purpose. That said, listening to the commentators/tennis legends talk about it and the other clips they showed of previous defaults including a guy who went to kick a chair but clipped the lines judge instead, it was the right call and the only call based on the rule. And I think had Djokovic been shown special treatment just because of who he is and his caliber, then I would have been more annoyed. He knows the rule and he took a risk with an errant ball. The rule is there to protect the lines judges and maybe it's a rule that needs to be re-examined to be a little more case-by-case basis, but as the rule stands, the right call was made. And all those people attacking the lines judge on social media are wrong.
