Should the Playoffs be Played in a Bubble?
« on: September 04, 2020, 10:13:53 pm »

There have been rumors floating for a week or so now that MLB is considering having the playoffs done in a bubble. Do you think this should happen or should teams travel like they have been all season?

100% bubble. Why make risk of transmission any higher than it needs to be

I think a playoff bubble should be instituted. It has worked extremely well for the NHL and NBA. Now, the only problem is figuring out the logistics behind it such as do players need to quarantine for a certain period of time once the regular season concludes and before the postseason starts? That's something MLB will need to figure out if it moves forward with this plan.

Yeah, there are definitely some logistics that need to be sorted out. I know a few parks that were being thrown around include Angel Stadium and the Rangers' new park. However, that bubble for the purposes of completing the playoffs will be vital IMO to avoid any positive tests. As you pointed out, the NBA and NHL have had great success with this.

One aspect is to keep the players safe. Sounds corny from where I am but, if the environment has had local case's in the community then even if you felt healthy, you had better have had the 'doctors note' prepared. Inside a bubble, it is controllable and the requirements keep the players focused

Part of me would love to see the playoffs outside of a bubble with fans allowed in small capacities, similar to the NFL, because it's hard to beat the atmosphere of playoff baseball. But i understand that's not the smartest move forward and I'd rather have playoffs in the bubble than none at all.

at this rate, the Phillies may not make the playoffs, but if they do, it's kinda disappointing to me that there will be a bubble because the Phademic Krew would have been out in full force to give any sort of homefield advantage. It's always a much smaller crowd for road games since there is not live baseball to be seen.
