conferences regret their decisions? Do the conference commissioners? Coaches? Only a few players have left for the portal.

There are reports surfacing today that the Big 10 is reevaluating for a potential start in late November. I think a lot will depend on how things go with the other conferences and how they proceed. You're already starting to see some games get postponed due to spikes on teams causing practices to be cancelled. If the trend continues, then I think you'll find that those two leagues made the right call.

I feel like they would have to be regretting their decisions, but they can't make it seem like they are publicly.

There is no way they are not regretting their decision. No evidence suggesting it was the correct one.

I think the Big 10, and soon the PAC 12, are watching all these other leagues/conferences (NFL, NBA, MLB, ACC, etc.) competing while having very few COVID hiccups and zero serious complications, and thinking shoot, we jumped the gun here. That's why the Big 10 had to backtrack and the Pac 12 will too.
